Description: With pics

ericmaxman - April 1, 2008 12:41 PM (GMT)
I got this little baby from my dad as a birthday present. Made by Fujimi, I cannot expect too much. The car is definitely not going to be red. i have already primed the car. Any suggestions for color? i prefer a dark color as i am malas to paint the panel line. :P :P

I have always preferred this car in a darker shade.....

druid_99 - April 2, 2008 01:54 AM (GMT)
Well, first of all I would suggest you to use smaller pictures for start.

640 x 480 should be a good size so that the viewer can see the whole pictures without having to scroll to the side.

On to your car model. I think Fujimi has its pros and cons. Some Fujimi cars are not well molded but most of it can be considered good like its Enthusiast series and most of its current model kits.

The Megane is one of its "average" quality models being curbside and a little soft on the detail but I've seen worse. At least you can use this car for practice before building the more complex models.

As for colour choices, for this car I can see that it will look great in either metallic black or dark metallic blue.

I was thinking about dark green. but it depends on whether i can find that color or not. BTW, i do feel like changing the rims. But will it fit? what about the price?

I'm not sure how the car looks in dark green but you can try.

As for the rims, any aftermarket rims from Fujimi and Aoshima can be used for this car with no problem. Maybe some adjustment and modification needs to be done for the bigger wheels though but minimal.

As for the price, it depends actually but the usual price is around RM20 but don't quote me on that. :D

i see. i did saw one fella (french) who did his megane with the Honda S2000 rims. looks quite nice. he did not change the car's color, just changed the rims. and i have uploaded pics for the corvette

just bought a fujimi integra dc5, the wheel and tire was small and ugly, so i plan to order aftermarket wheel set from fujimi, but i scared it also sucks, anyone bought aftermarket wheel set before? how was the quality? :ph43r:

Hi erixmaxman..i agree with druid_99 on the body color....dark colors will suit this car..for me i won't choose any bright or light color unless this is a sporty or 'futuristic' car....

Changing the wheels really makes the car more 'rugged' and stylish but it depends on the type and the size of wheels you are giving to this Megane. As mention by druid_99 also, since this is a FUJ kit, using other brands of after market wheels some modification are needed.

Entau.... i do have a FUJ integra DC2 (not DC5) fitted with FUJ 18" Volks TE37 and painted with titanium gold alike color then now i change them to NSX Type-R wheels and use them in my NSX built...As for DC5.... i think Yokohama Advan TCII wheels or Yokohama Model 7 looks cool (just my cents la).

well it depends..if it is 'yellow box' then u need to wait around 2 weeks but if it red means that they are low in stock and is 1st come 1st serve basis so sometimes they will inform you that is OOP.... :(

ericmaxman - April 14, 2008 06:38 AM (GMT)
hi guys. the megane is roughly 80% completed..interior still left the decals. body needs to be painted. body decals still not yet.

on a brighter note, my dad helped me out with a custom exhaust as the stock one is just ugly.

Hmm... at first glance the Renault looks like our Waja...

Good choice of colour but do remember to paint all the details like grille, logo, window surrounds and others after you polish it so that it will look better.

Kenneth - April 16, 2008 03:32 AM (GMT)
Hey! not a bad colour. Need some clear coat over it to get teh shine out of the matellic paint. Wah! since you dad is helping you. Why not get your dad involved in the hobby? Daddy can come in handy in terms of financing your hobby too.... Hahahaha! ;)

ericmaxman - April 16, 2008 04:27 AM (GMT)
He's a veteran builder.. Used to do some older Tamiya. If I got the time, I will show you guys some pics of his builds. It was because of him i got involved in the hobby anyway.. :D :D

Hmm.. I actually wanted it to remain red. But I think I used the wrong type of masking tape in which some of the plastic melted.

Entau - April 16, 2008 05:19 AM (GMT)
are u using the normal masking tape? y not using tamiya masking tape, its not really expensive though :)

ericmaxman - April 16, 2008 06:24 AM (GMT)
Hmm..why normal masking tape cannot use? I worry about budget..I'm not that rich to buy that many cars, or accesories.

Entau - April 16, 2008 06:47 AM (GMT)
well, normal masking tape cost around rm2, tamiya one cost like rm6-15, depend on sizes.

if u had use the normal and tamiya masking tape, u'll know the different :)

ericmaxman - April 16, 2008 06:52 AM (GMT)
hmm..i not sure whether want to take the risk or not..but like the cement, it is a long term investment after all

ericmaxman - April 16, 2008 10:22 AM (GMT)
hehe..changed my rims..what do you guys think?

The rims are too small. Looks like you took it from the S-MX rims is it? :D

ericmaxman - April 17, 2008 11:45 AM (GMT)
Yeah. No time to buy other rims, so i gasak from the S-MX. At least it looks better than the stock ones..

Kenneth - April 18, 2008 06:25 AM (GMT)

Entau - April 30, 2008 08:54 AM (GMT)
are u using primer? the red thing is primer?

druid_99 - May 5, 2008 03:46 AM (GMT)
I think the paint chip happens when you did not apply surfacer or you did not give the body a good sanding. The industrial paint will chip when there are no areas where the paint can "grip". Sanding the parts will give the area some "teeth" for the paint to grip.

ericmaxman - May 5, 2008 08:59 AM (GMT)
I sprayed over it. Now waiting for it to dry, then can polish and put decals.

ericmaxman - May 6, 2008 08:38 AM (GMT)
This is beginning to take a toll on me. I will completely strip the paint and redo it.

PcEvo - May 7, 2008 02:21 AM (GMT)

Hi eric...in my early years, i used to spray my kits with industrial sprays also and without clear coating them....in your case i would suggest that after so many attempts make sure you spray undercoat or surfacer and a bit of sanding before applying 'industrial' spray paints... ;)

About the wheels...the pics you post on the completed kit comes with Enkei wheels and these wheels you can find them as extra in most of the FUJ lancer kits so if you have a lancer kit especially Evo3 then u can fit them into this Megane of yours... :)

ericmaxman - May 7, 2008 03:34 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the advice, pcevo. BTW, I have just ordered one Kansai EVO7. Waiting for delivery. So which means i won't have any spare rims.. <_< <_<

I buy it from on-line shops and there's a few that is affordable even after shipping like Luckymodel, Hobbyeasy, Hobbysearch and Hobby Link Japan to name a few but I would suggest you to open a new thread on this and I think a lot of people (including me) can assist you and might be able to suggest you a few shops that is quite a value for money. :D
