actually, the name brakeet is a hasegawa invention. one theory is that they combined the phrase 'barak kit' into brakeet
the f-16 c/d are both called barak.
Scratch - March 3, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
Guys,
Interesting hypotosis on how "Barak Kit" came from Hasegawa, but brakeet is an actual Hebrew word meaning Thunderbolt. Most websites (Non-model making) refer to the Isreali F-16D as the Brakeet. Anyway check out the following website:
http://www.csd.uwo.ca/~pettypi/elevon/gust...tary/isdes.htmlScratch
aidy - March 3, 2006 04:28 AM (GMT)
the iaf does not list brakeet as a name for it's f-16c/d variants.

Scratch - March 3, 2006 05:52 AM (GMT)
Well it's hard to argue with the official webpage of the IAF, but there seems to be a whole lot of literature out there which says otherwise. Let's leave it at that for the moment.
Barak or Brakeet they are still F-16Ds and we love them. :D

Hi,
Very interesting thread indeed and informative too.
My other favourite A/C is F-16.
So, I have a great collectiong of 1:32 model and decals (mainly ANG) on F-16.
I would certainly like to add the IAF's F-16 into my future project.
Can some tell me which 1:32 kit and upagrades I need to get
to do the IAF F-16s?
Have not been into buying for quite sometime.
Thanks guys.

:D :D
let me share what i know so far...
as initially i'm also aiming to make one in 1/32 scale but after failed miserabily decided the 1/32 scale is just too big for me :(
1/32
- for minimal problem can invest in 1/32 Tamiya F-16CJ
- Decals from IsraDecal (they're the only place i know have in 1/32 scale)
- Conversion kit for the spine (hard to come by in 1/32 scale unless willing to scratchbuilt)
- Litening Pod (a guy in S'pore is scratchbuilding this and is casting it for mass-production and way.. way.. way... cheaper then the normal market)
- Lantrin Pod (can "curi" from other kit... or again scratchbuilt...)
- 600 Gallon wing tank
- For SUFA variant - a pair of Conformal tank (should be included in the Conversin Kit)
i'll post more if i found more on this.. still doing my own research for this plane.. :)
AND
i for one is still looking for a 1/48 Hasegawa F16CJ.. so anyone got to let go.. do let me know ya.. :)

P.S. Can I post some of my 1/72nd built?

:D sabrejet.. post away..
so your 1/72 is the one with the spine or not?
-----------------------
as for the color.. here is what i can gather from sabrejet's picture
an equivalent color for Gunze Sangyo since for Tamiya Arcylic you'll need to mix-and-match to get the perfect color..

In the original post where Kuman attached the pics of a model F16, it was shown with the airbrakes deployed while parked. Is that normal practise?

MiG21,
depends on which F-16 you want to do in 1/32 scale. You can even use Revell or Kangnam or Hasegawa or Academy for all options. IAF used from early F-16A until Sufa nowadays. So any version can be done fairly easily, except 2 seater at the moment.

Hi,
Thanks guys for posting nice pics and info on the IAF's F-16s.
Very tempting to venture into this project.
But I have to resist it now since I have started on the MiG21.....maybe in the next 2-3 years.
The "BLACK HOLE" can wait.
I have a similar plan to collect all the operators of F-16s.
Anyway, I gatai-gatai and dug up my library on the IAF F-16
Kuman, lucky they name it BARAK instead of BERAK!
1:32 Tiger Wings Decal for all Squadrons and model. I got this decal from the Tiger Wings boss many years ago.

Tiger Wings color scheme for Gunze paint.

My old 1:48 on this subject. The IAF patch was given by a RAAF pilot I befriend in Sydney.
aidy - August 3, 2006 11:45 AM (GMT)
kuman,
the best match for the green is testor's RAF Sky type 'S', available for 50% off at MMH in the bin opposite the counter.
the gunze green is a bit dark for modern IASF types, but is good for phantoms and skyhawks.
there is also the xtracolour green, but never tried as it's somewhat expensive.
kuman - August 4, 2006 12:47 AM (GMT)
:D :D
MiG21..
thats one fine decals for BARAK.. :) and i never heard of Tiger Wing before.. its still around?
so that is your completed IAF F16? nice... very nice indeed.. :)
-------------------
aidy
- testor is arcylic paint/water based? i wonder.. does MH still have the rest of the IAF color at 50% off?
- as for the Gunze Green.. maybe we can "soften" the green by adding a lil bit of white to it.. will it work?
- xtracolor is also arcylic/water based?
--------------------
all the input in here make me very "tak sabar" to start the project... but i have to restrain myself until i got all the info and done all the research and most importantly to get comfortable with airbrush.. i dont think those camo can be done with spray cans.. :)

Hi Kuman,
At 1 time Tiger Wings Decal from Taiwan made the best decal for 1:32 subject.
Most of the decals were sort after due to the great detailing and options available.
The IAF I got came with like 14 sheets with Hewbrew stencils.
Unfortunately he wrapped up his business like 3 years ago.
I doubt you can still get he famous IAF decals in the market.
My prized decal I got from him was a 1:32 IAF Kfir. That decal alllows you to build 7 options.

The largest aerial combat of all time:
IAF vs Syrian AF at Bekaa Valley, Lebanon - 1982

A great painting by Robert Taylor, that captured the intensity of a huge aerial combat.
In the background you can see aircraft from both sides flying in all direction!
Here a IAF F-16 is going after a Syrian MiG 21.
Historian, any idea how many aircraft from both sides took part in the aerial combat?
Have fun on what you think was on the pilot's mind during this dogfight.

He he... sharing info is important. Just like IDF. By the way, I have many more reading materials that can be shared with you guys on other IDF offensive and tactical on air, land and sea; including the old war histories (Napolean, Admiral Nelson, George Washington etc). Most of todays battle field tactics are learnt from the past and improvised.
The key is read and research.

Hi Kuman,
Jason should tell you his experiences in the decal business.
If you have the right product at the right time, then you would be lucky to sell them all. The famous "out of production".
Also you have to remember how the supply and demand mechanism works.
If they're only said 50,000 IAF collectors on the F-16, and they all beli up all your printed 50,000 decals. That's is good business.
If you printed more later, they would be less taker.
Then you are stuck with the stock for a long time!

Kuman,
All the lit that I read did not say the IDF's 16s as "Bearcat" or such, they just refer them as 16s. All these fancy names is for modellers' consumption?
This book on the IDF mission to Bad Debt is a good read. It is a true story, 'cause in the begining page it didn't read as " Once upon a time..." like the stuff in fairy tales.

Oh! One of the pilot got kilt in the shuttle mission. What's the guy's name. Slipped my fingers.

Great article to read regarding the aerial combat at Bekaa Valey recommended by Bud.
In Summary:
THE SCORE 82 to 0
"The Israeli pilots kept the advantage. "I can only tell you that, within half an hour, we shot down about 26 MiGs," Ivry said. After two hours Ivry called off the SAM attacks. The tally grew so that by noon on Friday, when a cease-fire took effect, IAF pilots had shot down 82 airplanes without losing any in air combat."

kuman,
testors model master is enamel, unfortunately. that one colour is still around in MH.
i re-checked the gunze colour quoted, btw, and now actually looks pretty good for a match. i was also supposed to be raf sky.
hope to follow your progress once you actually get around to starting this project!

Hi,
Do you guys know any body sell or make the upgrade or converesion kit for
F-16D Barak / Sufa in 1:32?
Also base on the info already provided by Kuman any other items I need?
The pics posted by you guys have been very inspriring indeed on this subject.
I think Kuman felt the same. Very "warrior" like.
If there is enough info I will take the challenge to do up this model in 1:32 since I have the decal.
On 1 note.
What do Malaysian public view any models on the IAF subject?
I am just curious.
I do not want to display the model if it is too sensitive.

MIG21
..
as far as i know there's no one out there that make a 1 set of conversion kits unless you're talikg about the 1/72 scale.. for thatsacel ISraDecals made one and now its still available... its a SUFA conversion set including all you need to make a SUFA.. inclusing the CFT,wheel + wheel bay.. also there rumors going around the net that IsraCast is going to release the conversion set for SUFA in 1/48 ....:)
unless you're willing to get parts by parts which is wonderfully done by Cutting Edge resin and is sold by Meteor Prduction (in USA) or Great Models
Some of it..
- 1/32 CEC32133 F-16C Large Wheels & Bulged Main Gear Doors
- 1/32 CEC32114 F-16 Big Mouth Seamless Intake, larger wheels & doors for Hasegawa
- 1/32 CEC32077 F-16 P&W Engine Nozzle
- So far i havent seen any CFT for 1/32 scale yet.. but there is one for 1/48 but this is only used by the F16D Barak not the F16i Sufa.
Also you'll need the 600gl tank..
---
i'm indeed fired-up to start this project. all i need is to
- wait for the Spine & Barak Decal to arrive
- wait for the appropriate kits in 1/48 scale namely the F16CJ
- Scratchbuilding the Litening pod, Lantrin pod & the CFT (if i'm feeling like doing the SUFA)
---
As for the view on Israeli subject..
- it just a model.. nothing else.. ;)
---
I think this is going to be a long project by me.. :) and will take A LOT of time to complete...
---
aidy
thanks for the info hmm i never work with enamel before... but fortunately as you said.. the Gunze color is sufficient & a close match to it then i'm saved.. :)
