Title: Buffalo Diorama -merdeka Gb 08
Description: Loo CK and Masterqq
mr b - March 12, 2008 11:54 AM (GMT)
First off ......guys .....my work e-mail does not seem to be going out to some domains..........so I will start this thread ......for updates and suggestions.....
The idea as follows
1) Direlect Buffalo ...........resting in the airfield........(I will try and source from Bud) .......
2) My Buffalo .........engine running and pilot about to get in .........
3) Tom - Buffalo pilot inside.........taxing out to runway.........(rudders and such need to be deflected)
4) Loo - Already on the runway on take off role........
Figures........we need at least 2 other figures with flight gear running behind my aircraft to their imaginery buffalos.........
Some air field stuff......like wheel chocks.....jerry cans oli drums and such.......if we can get the ready room done....it will be great.....and pilots streaming out from it...........(additional plan)
The ground ......I have a picture in my mind as wet and slushy......can get the aircrafts to blend in well........that way.........
Any suggestions..........anyone else want to be part of this Diorama........
Thanks guys
Mr B

B,
Thanks for laying it out for u.. maybe Loo can make a skatch for us.
I got 3 motors around for the engine, I will send it to you and Loo..
Loo CK - March 13, 2008 04:02 AM (GMT)
Mr B,
I seem to recall having the Eduard 48 scale RAF 1940 fighter crew set. Will see if its suitable.
As for the idea to motorise the kits, I still have a spare kit of the Buff. Let's coordinate on the marking next.
The sketch will come shortly and I will build on the idea you had.

What does the ready room look like. Might be tempted to contribute time for it.
Richard.

Hi Richard
I for one welcome your brillent "shrinking ray" technology to our humble project
If I recollect the era (from some partial shots of the ready room pics given by Mr Loo ).....it will be a wooden structure on stilts I will try and upload the pic here.....and try to get a mate of mine to visualize my toughts on paper and upload it here........
Will try to do so by tommorow or so........hope to have you on board........

Nice photo Poopeh..
Look like we do need more figures. maybe some one can help recast the figures Loo have to multiply the numbers .. and we need members help painting them too.. any offer?
Rich... agree with mr B..I also welcome your brillent "shrinking ray" technology to our humble project...
Loo CK - March 14, 2008 05:54 AM (GMT)
gentlemen,
this is starting to take shape into quite an interesting project.
Poopeh,
as discussed with Thomas earlier, I have a copy of the 'Buffaloes over Singapore' and its text rich, with a comprehensive cover of the Buffaloes involvent from the start of the Malaya campaign till the end. Unfortunately not much visuals. We had a small problem of actually locating the side fuselage codes painted on the Sg Petani birds. The pilots and registration numbers are recorded so that is not a problem.
As this scene is becoming an action packed scene, its now important to get a timeline done accurately to see whether we need to light up the airfield.
As for the figures, I will confirm tonite once I go thru the Eduard and pilot figures in my stash.
Wunderbar.

Thanks guys, the raygun needs new batteries to go down to 48th scale. The last time helped out for an airport scene was to complete the unfinished tower for the '72nd scale airshow.
The ready room I presume isn't that big. What it was built from is what worries me. Were the walls flat or overlapping planks like my 'Local Fruit Shop'
Simple picture will suffice including timeline.
Richard.

And a splendid job of it too, considering the half baked condition it was in when you took over.
Richard is one very valuable asset to have on board any group modelling project. :D

Might be able to help out with some pics. I have a book entitled "The Odd Man Out" (I think). Its the story of a British officer shot for spying for the Japs. He was based at Alor Setar Airfield and there some pics and sketches of the place. Shall I pass it took to you Brian? I will be in Pg this weekend so can also pass it to Tom.

Loo CK - March 28, 2008 12:30 PM (GMT)
Thomas,
muchas gracias.
I am piecing the action in the Sg Petani base together and there may be something similar and relevant to our scene! I did manage to get some serial numbers of the Buffaloes in that base which saw some action but no large font marking reference unfortunately.
Let you guys know more soon as there is a lot to read up on and to cross refer....
For the time being I think we can limit the airfield to a 3' x 1.5' base to fit the scene.... subject to alterations.
mr b - March 29, 2008 11:30 AM (GMT)
motors arrived........
Will need to pass to Loo C.K

Hello folks
I dun have a Buffalo, but i do have some 1/48 figures. These figures are from Tamiya's 1/48 Zero. It has got figures cladded in shorts. I suspect I could modify them with my limited scratcbuilding skills and readups from fellow modellers here in the forum .

Hi guys,
Got some pics of what I've done so far with the ready room. Basic frame work done. Roof base also done.

The frames are balsa glued with mixture of white glue and uhu. Haven't added the cross bracing yet. Haven't decided on lidi or balsa.

Close up of the planking scribed on the thick card.

Roof made with same material as flooring.

This weekend will do some more.

Just found something else
http://www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/port...a-2-buffalo.htmThe kit has 21 sq's marking which supposed to be at Sg Petani. Coded TD-V. I haven't read the article in detail though
PoohBear - April 9, 2008 03:16 AM (GMT)
The author quote the markings of V-TD AN185 as RAAF 453 Squadron in Sembawang airbase, Singapore.
Didn't the surviving birds of 21st Squadron get consolidated with 453 Sqdn?
masterqq - April 9, 2008 03:51 AM (GMT)
yup....
TD is 453 Sqn
ND is 488 sqn
RD is 62 sqn in burma
And some history of the 21 sqn...
http://defence.gov.au/Raaf/organisation/un...sqn/history.htmRecognize that boxing roo unit marking... and take a look at my avatar.. yes. we are working on decal which will be printed for every body.. we have a jpg file, we hope someone can help to resize and perfect it for decal printing...let us know any volunteer to help us on this.
