Title: Bofors 57mm Mk.3 Naval Gun
Description: Keep the Target to Navy.....

dremel - March 11, 2008 09:42 PM (GMT)
Hi guys….

See you again in my next task…..

1/12 Scale Bofors 57mm Mk.3.

This is fully scartchbuilt and about 2.5 feet length. Its fun actually…I love square shape because it is an easier thought... I could get the shape, balancing, alignments and proportions by calculations. In fact I can use copy and paste method that I’ve no needs to use my eye side….

Stop talking and let see how its goes….

Enlarge the drawing to 1/12 scale. Drawing is actually come from a brochure that he got from LIMA. Should be enough to start and get the basic shape though.

And from the drawing I can cut plywood according to the part that I need….this stage we need a lillbit of mathematic . I don’t know exactly how to explain …some times its just need an imaginations….

Here what I’ve done so far…..

user posted image

Dry fit all the part by using masking tape….we need to do that ….sometimes I’d to trim if I feel something wrong on the shape…..

Here the progress that I’ve done….

I think its look ok….just need a lillbit an adjustments ....so I can prepare for next step…..Stay tune….

C & C are welcome….. :D

Plywood cheaper maa  BTW its will be easier to cut if i use high impact plastic.

Here some progress ....

This Gun has been request for moveable turret and gun barrel. I dont care how the inside look like but the most important is must plan how to make it moveable.

I used PVC pipe and High Impact plastic....

The barrel is out of scale... hahaha.. .just kidding... I know that's not the actual barrel... you're using it as a guideline I think. :D

dremel - March 13, 2008 09:07 AM (GMT)
Nope...just to get a right angle before all parts glued.

I used a lot of plywood, high impact plastic and PVC pipe….

I’d attach 3 layer of PVC pipe to get an exact diameter for the ???

Inspiring by one of ARC member who was used liquid plastic to cover the balsa wood….

Actually, that's a damn good idea with all the ready servo units from the RC shops available now.

Think about it Naza.

Richard.

dremel - March 25, 2008 04:37 AM (GMT)
Brother Loo,Sifu...Good idea too, maybe not for this one because i've no plan to convert to RC. Since i got the template already, i might think about it to reproduce another one in future.

dremel - March 26, 2008 06:11 PM (GMT)
Update time….

Started to take off the harden bondite from the turret…..Its will be easier to shape in when detach from the turret.

user posted image

Before attachment, I’d trace the shape on paper to some other reason that I’ll explain later.

user posted image

And place it on, as usual refine it with 3 stage sanding….

That’s all about it, thanks for viewing….

Hi….have a good day my friends and former…. :D

Turret almost done….just needs a detailing on rivet, door line and door handle….I think so.

The process….

Final putty treatment…

Here the turret finally in shape….

After this, build up the gun barrel and I’ve to think how to make the turret turn as well. A lot of works have to be done….see you guys…

C & C are welcome….. ;)

Ok guys some up date of Bofors

Build up the gun barrel….As always, I would like to used a frame technique because that’s will give an accurate measurement instead of looking for the plastic rod that closer in diameter. Some times it’s doesn’t work that way….

Hope pic’s will describe what I mean….

I’m forgotten where I got this rod and I’m not even know what the hell this is …
user posted image

Teruskan….build up the frame according to the drawing….

user posted image

Apply putty…

user posted image

1st stage sanding….

user posted image

Is hard to get in shape at the first putty treatment….you’ll need twice….

user posted image

user posted image

Gun barrel done…

And now….. The small parts like radar, gun sight…etc….managed to scratch built part of it….still rough though….

Trumpet….

I don’t know what the hell is this…

You all might not asking me, what type of glue (grey in color) that I used….that’s is actually two part epoxy thats call JB Weld. FYI…I’ve to use that just for exhibitions mock up. Its dam strong and its good enough to stick me at the wall  ….you can get it around RM130 for a set (two parts)

Ok guy that’s all about it….see ya…C & C are almost welcome….thanks for viewing…. :D

druid_99 - April 2, 2008 03:36 AM (GMT)
Wah, very good progress there and a very good way to replicate barrels. It will be very useful to me in the future...

Finally, the JB Weld thingy is shown... :D
