masterqq - January 30, 2008 07:57 AM (GMT)
After kena the racun from Loo.. I hunt down 2 Buffalos.. 1 will be pass to Mr B for our MGB08. I think Brian have an Idea to make a diorama later...

This also mark my first 1/48 WW2 kit...Work started by spraying the interior black,

then follow with interior green...

I have no idea how the actual cockpit look like, If Master Loo can provide some ref photos, it will be a great help...
to be continue...

this will be a series of references that I managed to lift off the net during my research phase.

more to come after this...

B,
Don't worry.. will ship it to you before CNY, with your build rate, you can build it faster than md anytime, but we need to discuss with LOO on the marking later, maybe a custom decal..
My Hakka Brother Loo,
Many thanks for the photos, this is helpful.. keep it coming..

Update.. Update..
Finally got some mood to work on this Kerbau over the weekend..
First, I wanna try that salt-paint chip technique that I learnt from net, It work .. but it is too heavy chip for me.. maybe I should use finer salt and much less salt..

Next, the painting begin.
i cut a template for the fuselage serial #, they were stick on by diluted white glue on a prepainted mid sea gray fuselage, and painting proceed follow on by Dark earth, dark green, and Sky and black on the bally..

Next to do will be decal time.. then wash..more paint chip perhapes, this time with silver pen..
Since, this Kerbau will be part of the "MGB : Bloody Scramble diorama", the gang decided to have this one with turning prop, I have got a motor for it and I need to figure out how to hide those wire (Since this decision to add motor came after I assemble the fuselage..).. this will be later
mr b - April 7, 2008 03:02 AM (GMT)
Very cantik
How to do the mask for the serial....advise pls

Wah, adding motor for this "kerbau"??? Where did you get the tiny motor Thomas?
As for the power for the motor, you can either put it into the fuselage and powered by a few watch battery but need to add the on/off switch on the body or the wire can go through the landing gear (you have to make it using brass tubes) and through the tyres and onto the base.
Just a suggestion though.
rtfoe - April 7, 2008 04:04 AM (GMT)
Nice one Thomas,
I'm also curious about the motor. I've got three which are about 2 1/2 times bigger.
Druidds suggestions is the only two ways to go since you already assembled the body, threading the wires into the wing root would be challenging.
I've started on the ready room. Will post pics of the progress. Frames and roof done. It only needs the attap sides and roofing plus the door and blackboard.
Richard.
masterqq - April 7, 2008 06:39 AM (GMT)
Guys, thanks. that motor is a vibrator for Hand phone, I have sent 5 pieces to Mr B for the use of this diorama, this should be enough for everybody..
thanks for the wire dressing suggestion too, May be I will try to dress it thro the landing gear... let's see..
Rich,
aiyoo.. can't wait to see your ready room WIP, this gonna be a nice addition to the diorama..
B,
The serial was printed on a piece of paper, and then I cut it and stick it on the model as a mask...
Loo CK - April 7, 2008 10:34 AM (GMT)
I say, brother Tom,
very nice shades and the GA/M looks right. Hope to be able to get the reference with the contact you suggested.
As for the Sg Petani events, this diorama of ours will take place after the first enemy contact and before the last 4 Buffaloes were transferred to another base.
There was a total of 18 Buffaloes as a start but most were bombed on the ground as in the initial enemy contact, only 2 managed to take off but had serious gun malfunction. Subsequent air raid also saw no action as all the fighters were not allowed to take off to engage for some strange reason.
Sg. Petani airbase was essentially a grass field with no hangars, and only some supporting structures, that much is recorded. The GA/? codes is recorded in at least one war time picture of a wreckage in Sg. Petani.
I managed to get a full list of all the pilots and are now looking up reference photos if they do come up.
As for the diorama, I am thinking of a irregular base very much like the KIFV dio but with a bit more height to store the power source and also to put in write up of the diorama, onto the dio itself. There will be some trees on the edge next to the ready room and leading onto the Kerbau taking off. Pics to come.

PoohBear - April 8, 2008 02:33 AM (GMT)
There's one Buffalo left at MH yesterday but adding another bird to the dio will probably be overkill.
masterqq - April 8, 2008 02:43 AM (GMT)
thanks brother loo..
Here is photo of GA-B ,and GA-M next to it...... I believe this is taken at Sg pertani pre war..any one have this mag?? and Look like I got the fuselage code too far back to the rear..sigh.

and some referance for your build..

Okay, if it's still available, I might join in the Buffalo Herd. Ultimately, I think it depends on the layout plan of the dio base and whether it can accommodate another bird without being overcrowded.
Worse case, I can pitch in in some other areas. :)
shahrs - April 8, 2008 03:48 AM (GMT)
How about overfly buffalo.. Is it looks overcrowded??
mr b - April 8, 2008 03:49 AM (GMT)
Mr Pooh
You are most welcome to join in as I do not think I can build 2 as originally planned .....So instead of going with the derilict one ....maybe u can build a fully operational one.....
Always nice to have participants from all the Sifu Sifu terhormat :)

THis is getting exciting. When is the deadline? I'll see if i can join the melee
kuman - April 8, 2008 04:09 AM (GMT)
Thomas...
logic logic.. :) every Bendang needs a Kerbau to populate it... :)
so that magazine cover is the actual buffalo from Sg. Petani?
Poopeh:
- still one left at MH? hmmm this is not going to be good for the "no buying month" policy :D
- i'll you pick that one up first.. i'll wait for the next shipment... :)

PoohBear - April 8, 2008 04:11 AM (GMT)
Okay, guys, will have to see about procuring a buffalo then. :)
Poopeh, this is for MGB08 so I believe the deadline would be at the very latest, August 31st 2008.

Wire dressing... the natural way.. thro the break line .. can you see it???
rtfoe - April 15, 2008 05:44 AM (GMT)
Nice one there Thomas.
Like real man. I wonder if a reostat can be added to regulate the propellar speed.
Would be nice to have it turn slower like about to start for one of the Buffalos.
Richard.
Poopeh - April 15, 2008 06:07 AM (GMT)
As for the sound it might be possible to include a sound recorder ic. Maybe from jalan pasar
http://www.intec-group.co.uk/sound_recorder.htmsince we already have the engine sound..
mr b - April 15, 2008 08:47 AM (GMT)
masterqq - April 16, 2008 01:42 AM (GMT)
Cheers.. gang..
Here is how I resolve the wire dressing issue, Since I already assemble the fuselage, the best way to do this is to dress the wire thro the landing gear...

First I saw a groove on the landing gear strut for the wire to sit in, and drill holes on the wheels

the wire will be cover by the gear door...this is perfect way to hide it..

adding wheel

Disguise part of the wire as the break line and paint it black..look in the wheel bay, you can see the wire running along it toward the landing gear, this also can disguise as the piping in the wheel bay, I think...

The wire came thro the styrofoam and connected to the homemade battery compartment, the switch and battery contacts came from the motoroized Boat kit.. something that I use to hate to be on the boat, but become very handy now.. ;)
rtfoe - April 16, 2008 03:42 AM (GMT)
Wiring technique is great.
With this in mind we have to carefully think of the dio base for all the planes to be wired. Looks like it will be thick foam.
This time I hope the frame holding the dio is finished nicely and all batteries hidden within the dio base itself, switches and all just like what you've done with yours Thomas.
The more professional the presentation looks the better the respect of our hobby from would be sponsors and spectators alike.
Keep it up.
Richard.
kuman - April 16, 2008 03:49 AM (GMT)
we have sound in the works right?
what about adding some smoke to the plane engine?
any idea guys?
kuman
Poopeh - April 16, 2008 05:54 AM (GMT)
Smoke is possible but not easy. Maybe using the smoke generators for train models but those things aren't cheap
masterqq - April 17, 2008 01:53 AM (GMT)
Kawan-Kawan..
I painted the pilot, I needed a seated pilot so I use the kit's one and added the float around the neck ala RAF style. the only thing is this guy is not wearing short..

That's all now, waiting for the final decal to be printed...
- The serial # AN184
- The boxing Roo..
