Title: 1/700 Fujimi Kirishima
Description: Fujimi kit with Eduard PE

dremel - December 24, 2007 05:10 AM (GMT)
Hai guys...

Sory to add one more thread...... :(

This kit is Fujimi but Eduard PE is for Hasegawa kit…..I do not know how to explain this…That is why I’m stuck half way. Its totally difference between Fujimi and Hasegawa….PE part number also difference (of cause). But I’ll still have to continue anyway (don’t ask who want me to build this)….Hope all the PE sifu can give a hand on this project.

I’ll get a detail photo soon…..

Hi Dremel.

What help do you need? I have the Hasegawa kit. Do you need a copy of the instructions?

Min

rtfoe - January 1, 2008 05:15 PM (GMT)
Hi Min and Dremel,

Actually what you need is the Hasegawa kit. The Fujimi kit unfortunately is a general kit for all the variants of the Kongo class. I opened all boxes and found it similar except for some extra sprues for the conversions. All four sister ships were different structurally and very noticable.

Dremel, you might have to fit only the essentials like railings and ladders. The Hasegawa instruction sheet might help give a little indication to what goes where but the fit will be a problem. I got a shock when I saw the Hasegawa version of the Kirishima, it's way different especially the structure under the catapult station and the main pagoda super structure.

Sorry to give you bad info. You've got to use what you can.

Richard.

Hi Richard ,Min,

I’m so sorry for the late reply. I don’t know how I can miss your reply.Maybe I’m too busy with other things recently. :)

Min,Instruction sheet might help but as Richard said, the difference are quite noticeable especially on the structure it self. Its gave me a lot of headache to match part no. from Fujimi instruction sheet to eduard PE.BTW thanks for the offer. :)

Richard, yup…you’re absolutely right I’ve to make use what ever parts from Eduard that’s look match/fit to me. And I managed to soft some …. I’m quite happy with it. I hope its will turn out ok. ;)

Richard,Min…thanks for the input,I’ll appreciate it. ;)

Here a update progress …….

Hi Dremel,

Looks like a lot of work already.

A simple improvement would be to add blast bags to the main guns. I've used masking tape plus PVA glue in the past.

I found this build by Lars Juel Mosbaek a useful reference:

Thanks alot Min, i wish can have an eye to do that. What colour you used for deck?and what brand the best for ship?, i mean if i'll need to handpainting some area thats i've could not reach by an airbrush?...I've believed i'll have a problem when come on painting thou... :(

Thanks in advance ;)

squealus - January 13, 2008 09:37 AM (GMT)
Hi,

Painting the Kirishima in her final state:

Wooden deck was teak. You can use radome tan or a similar light tan color. Looks good with a wash. Or you can use White Ensign Models Teak paint. Tamiya also makes 2 deck tan colors XF55 and XF78. XF 55 is grayish tan. I haven't tried out XF 78 yet.

Aircraft Handling Deck was linoleum. You can use Tamiya Linoleum XF79 or White Ensign Models Linoleum paint. Personally, I like the look of the red brown color used on WW2 German tanks.

Rest of ship: Kure gray, available again from Tamiya XF75 or White Ensign Models.

Ususally I spray the ship overall gray and then hand paint the decks. Otherwise have to spend a lot of time masking.

i herd from zamri that if u build a ship, u like to put lamp,....like green for stbd and red for port site

Min,
your knowledge on ships never cease to amaze me!

What's on your workbench at the moment?
A couple of us guys in town are thinking of doing up a few Tamiya Perkasa boats for this year's merdeka exhibition.

Thanks for the input Min,I don’t store much of Tamiya paint honestly because of the prize. And I don’t think White Ensign Models paint available here. I’m a Gunze user actually BTW your tips/link help me a lot on painting yesterday.

Instead of using Tamiya Deck Tan, I used Gunze 310 (brown) +45 (sail colour ) for the deck. I used Humbroll paint …I forgot what the color though….. for Aircraft handling deck. Its lillbit lighter I think. I just hope its will turn out better after blackwash and weathering treatments.

I used combinations of an airbrush and hand painting like what you suggested yesterday….Thanks again.

Thanks for remind me about blast bag as well….I’m using tissue paper with white glue…..I need to smoothen it before weathering. If not nice I’ll take it out and redo.

Here some update before I zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hi Dremel,

Nice painting. I think the wooden decks and the wash look just right.

Loo: I'm building the IJN heavy cruiser Tone in 1/700 currently. Started in October, and still coming along slowly..... I wish I could work as fast as Dremel! Will post pics in near future.

Please post the WIP of your project here ok :)

Hi Dremel,

Saw your build and its looking great. Glad that you managed to use whatever PE for the kit. The deck looks fine.

I got some pix of the same model but built as the Haruna or as close to it. Will post some pix of it. Haven't rigged it yet.

Richard.

Thanks Richard,I'll appreciate it,take your time ;) .Honestly its quite tough for me...I feel like walking in the dark :(

cptan - January 15, 2008 09:41 AM (GMT)
Hi Dremel,

I'm not a IJN expert but I'm crazy about KONGO class fast battleship :-).

Notice U've build the kit with extra triple machine gun mounted on top of the main gun turrets and the additional twin anti-aircraft gun on both side. These fitting are more close to KONGO and HARUNA of mid & late-war period... While KIRISHIMA was sunk at early mid-war without these additional.

Although I might be wrong.... hey, this is a hobby anyway :-D

CPTan

Note:While most of the IJN warships were sunk either by enemy sub or aircract bombing, KIRISHIMA was the ONLY IJN warship sunk by US naval gun - direct hit from USS Washington.

dremel - January 15, 2008 02:23 PM (GMT)
Hi Cptan,

Thanks a lot for the info,I'm a dead man  ....i just followed an intruction thats provided by Fujimi. You might be right ,but how to take out the gun anyway. :( .....

I think I've to leave it like that.I'll spoil the whole things if i try to pull out the gun now <_<

Today somebody attach this link on my thread in other Forum.
http://www.combinedfleet.com/Kirishima.html

Thanks again.

dremel - January 15, 2008 02:48 PM (GMT)
cptan,I did check from Modelwarship.com....confirm no machine gun on the main turret :( .....what should i do now :(

kerastangan - January 16, 2008 12:54 AM (GMT)
Good work (even though still WIP) as always Naza. Commissioned work I guess?

Cptan, I believe there are other Japanese BBs sunk by gunfire (in combination with surface-launched torpedoes). One of them is IJN Fuso which was badly damaged by torpedoes from USS Melvin (DD). She later blew up and broke into two - the stern section sank by itself whilst the bow section was finished off by cruiser USS Nashville. Fuso's sistership, Yamashiro, has the unwanted distinction of being the last battleship sunk in surface action. She was turned into a wreck by gunfire from USSs West Virginia, Maryland, Mississippi, California, and Tennessee (veterans of Pearl Harbor except Mississippi; Pennsylvania was present too but unable to fire) and finished off by USS Melvin. Both were sunk on 25 October 1944 at the Battle of Surigao Strait.

kerastangan-Thanks the Info Bro ,belajar banyak dalam W.I.P kali ni,
Yup commissioned build as always :D tapi rasanya saya buat utk semua ;)

Hey Dremel,

As said, this is only a hobby.... pls don't get upset on the misfit. Overall it's a great build anyway :-)

rtfoe - January 16, 2008 05:27 AM (GMT)
Dremel,

Don't worry about the mistake. It's Fujimis for putting all the eggs in one basket or killing 4 birds with one stone.

One way is to finish it as the Kongo if the owner isn't too fussy cos the aft superstructure is similar to Kirishima's. Haruna will have a more boxy structure with extra anti-aircraft guns.

Richard.

dremel - January 16, 2008 05:35 AM (GMT)
Thanks Richard,cptan....its not 100% my fault(i hope so) thanks for your support anyway.BTW i'll try to finish it as good as i can...i'll post the photo shortly :)

rtfoe - January 16, 2008 05:35 PM (GMT)
Naza,

Promised some pix on the Fujimi Haruna with metal etch from Tom's model works Kongo class ships.
You might have seen it before, it was at the last Merdeka and Naval group builds in my Kure harbour dio.

Enjoy the pix, as I said I haven't rigged it and painted the hammock drapped blast sheilds white yet.

Wow very nice Richard. Thanks a lot for the reffrence.Yup i've seen it before.I did a lot of mistake on the railing though.I'll post a photo tomorow ok.

I've no idea how to remove the railing :( .BTW let see wether its still can be remove or not.

dremel - January 17, 2008 05:08 AM (GMT)
And finally after all the mess….managed to complete this Ship. Even though some of the mistake is beyond repair….but I keep trying to minimize the error. Firstly I just want to ignore the railing at the 2nd layer of the deck. There was a nightmare if I decide to remove it with all the parts are already there.

Here the fist complete model before I remove the 2nd layer railing of the deck.

Very good build Naza,

Now I can use your pix as reference to do my rigging.

You're the only one I've seen that has done both extremes of scale ships within a short space of time. Well done.
