Very nice! How much did you get the SMT LEDs for? Are they the actual colours for Temjin?

Looking good, tkting.

How would the power source be? Would it be from a single source or multiple source?

single source. connect from bottom of footpad.

Mr. Engineer - January 16, 2008 12:29 AM (GMT)
The colour of the Temjin lights. Its been a long time since I stepped into an arcade. I am thinking green.

Not sure if it pulsates on and off or just glow permanently.

ofcoz can la. only thing is it's too small to solder.... i having experience when i do for my 1/144 strike freedom that time. hard to solder cable to led....

for voltage thing, just put a proper rasistor to it will do.

mine using 3.4V, 20mA, source 5V, so 100ohm rasistor will do.

yeah.. i noticed that oso.. oni a "dot" sized area to be soldered.. <_<
normal solder can't deliver the job, the one he used is very narrow and sharp end solder, i guessed it's his cari-makan tools ;)

but i saw he soldered it in less than 1 min.. looked very easy and fast
dunno i can do that or not la.. :P

wat i noticed was he only mounted the mini led on double sided foam tape, scratch the copper area (small dot), scratch some copper wire end (single strand with transparent coating) and start soldering it.
everything in 1-2 min..
and very bright oh

to solder the led on circuit board is easy, but not as easy as just solder tiny cable on it. coz the tiny cable is not tiny anymore when compare to these mini led.

it's easy to spoil the led coz it may melt the led and cause the contactor not working. (i'm spoil alot of these led :( ) It need to be done quikly.

klay - January 25, 2008 01:43 AM (GMT)
dat's y i said he uses those single strand copper wire (i think around 0.1-0.2mm thick).. if use normal plastic coat-wire sure cannot.. too thick ;)

then yr fren should be very good in soldering lo.
I'm using those single strand copper wire too. but still hard to solder, for me la.

klay - January 25, 2008 09:03 AM (GMT)
err.. how to say ler.. ;) i saw he did it at one go only
should require some experience b4 can achieve it..
but the way he did it is like makan kacang :D

Mr. Engineer - January 25, 2008 12:59 PM (GMT)
Actually, soldering the SMT LEDs are a bit tricky but with patience, it can be done. Using the double-sided tape is a good solution (how come I never thought of it before? <_< ) And the choice of soldering iron is critical too. I ma using a 18Watt (or was it 20Watt?) iron.

As for the cables, it can be bought for about anything from RM18 to 25 (2005 price) per roll. They are so thin, you just have to carefully scrape the plastic sheaths or just melt it with the iron. Using cutter or blade would only injure the cable and it will snap off when you least expect it.

Oh, those are called wire-wrapping cables and you can buy them at Pasar Road with choice of colours.

Great job, tkting!

It'll make a great display. Love the base too. Very simple.

tkting - February 22, 2008 04:40 PM (GMT)
thanks for support.
basically 4xAAA battery store inside base. there is a switch, brightness adjust, power adapter socket at the back of base. did't take picture. haha

Hee hee hee hee. Thanks to you, I got one too. But I am not going to build it too soon:
