Well done Harman. Abandon all hope ye who enter the dark world of figures. Just kidding....I think. :)
Just my opinion, but this is one of Tamiya's better figures as a whole and arguably one of the best of their 1/16th. So you've picked a great figure to paint and thanks to the level of detail should be relatively easy.
Looking forward to following this one.

Thanks for the comment, CK.
I've selected this figure because I have a 'thing' with Greatcoat. I also feel that this is going to be an easy build.
Oh, I 've also seen Patrick's work on the same subject.

CK is right, this is one of their better figures. The sad face says it all.
I think the next kit you should get is Rommel after you get thoroughly poisoned.

Well, so much for my "one month project", huh. I finally got the time to paint the figure. First, I apply one layer of primer using Gunze's Mr Surfacer.
I painted the figure with Gunze acrylics. I applied flat black base color using the trustee airbrush. Next, using drybrush technique, I hand painted the figure's cloth with field green. I slowly try to bring out the colors of the cloth and this is what I could come up with.

The face is currently painted with flesh base paint.
Some close-up shots

Waste not. I 'll try to figure out where this stuff will go to on the figure. Currently I'm planning to have the MP5 (?) slinging on his left shoulder.

Other accessories. Primed and ready for paint.

I got this fella online at discountmodels.com. I think HHQ has one figure in this scale but it's a Modern US Soldier.

Its good to hear your back on the saddle on this one Xamel.
Good progress thus far. I'm assuming you will give the lot a matt coat after everything is in so that should take care of the current gloss. Hard to tell from the lighting or most likely its just me old eyes, the green is wee bit "too green". No worries though coz if its a wee bit too green you can mute it either by:
1. A few thin coats of very diluted german grey will tone the green down nicely.
or
2. Fading the green by applying a lighter green on the top portion of the helmet as well as the shoulders and the top half of the chest and back. This will give it a weathered effect.
Just some minor considerations, like you I think its a waste if I don't use up all the weapons, bandoliers, mess tins, etc. I especially find it frustrating in the smaller 1/35 DML kits where its usually next to impossible to stuff in everything either due to the body configuration and/or the shape of the accessories. However, in this case most of the MG gunners I've seen in pics are armed only with a pistol as the ammo and the MG itself is heavy and bulky. Mind you there's nothing wrong giving him the MP 40 submachinegun as well as I'm sure there were such cases. You may just need to have him loaded with the MG42 and blue tac the MP 40 to see how they look on him. Just some very minor 2 cts. though.
Looking forward to see more pics.

Thanks for the comments, CK.
Indeed, the green is "too green". Almost as green as US army's uniform. I will tone it down a bit.
Regarding the placement of the MP40, I may reconsider it. Pity if I should waste the additional accessory. Maybe I could place it somewhere else - using it as a background subject.
Edit: No wonder it's too green... I use field green instead of field grey. D'oh!
