Title: 1/700 Combrig Hms Agincourt

squealus - October 18, 2007 08:40 AM (GMT)
I was inspired to build the Agincourt after reading about the ship's colorful history and the political intrigue surrounding it on the Steel Navy Website:
HMS Agincourt

That and the fact that the ship carried more main guns (14) than any other battleship.

Cleaning up parts. These were smaller and finer than what I've been used to, even though I'm used to building 1/700 ships.

Nice work :D

Looks like the crane & lifeboat clutter might get in the way of the midship turret. Then again, could just be the angle of the pics.

Yep, the boats do get in the way. The blast from the guns would have caused a bit of damage to them.

Actually, the Royal Navy was fearful the ship would fall apart if she were to fire a full broadside. I believe Agincourt did this only twice in her career, smashing the crockery on board.

nicely done...darn if i could do the same, but im never good with waterline scale.
got several boxes of big scale ships that i collected thru the years, never seems to find the nerve to start them...no skill at ship building la

btw...arent fly tippets suppose to be taper? 15lbs on one end ,6lbs on the other, just wondering the reason u use expensive fly tippets (rm12 each) instead of cheap 2lbs mono (rm8 per 100meter), hehe i would have save the tippet for a tarpon or maybe a daddy kelisa .... in my dreams...haha, i just love jumpers that fights dirty

Min,
another great one.
I am curious whether you have tried painting the railings a deeper and darker colour? Might just help in making the illusion of a finer scale. They seem a little chunky in the pics.

Loo

ps: any carriers in the works?

Hi

Loo: The railings look clunkier than usual as I sprayed way way too much Future on. I'll try your suggestion next time.

At the moment I'm building a 1/700 IJN Tone, trying to super detail the ship like Jeff Lin.
As for a carrier, I'll be building the Heller 1/400 HMS Victorious/Illustrious kit after I finish the Tone.

Ari: I know zero about fishing. I used fly tippet after picking some up on discount and it looked thin enough. Thanks for your suggestion. Will try 2 lb monofilament next time!
