Description: In box review

Hi guys, just got this from HHQ yesterday and decided to give some review on this model.

Introduction:

The plan to utilize the PzKpfw IV's chasis for anti-aircraft gun carrier was proposed in early 1943 as it was urgently needed by the front line units due to the increased air allied superiority. It was originally armed with 2.0cm Flak 38 guns but the design was rejected and did not enter production although a single prototype (possibly a few pre-production examples) was produced.

The only prototype was ready in October of 1943 and was presented to Adolf Hitler on December 7th of 1943 but on January 28th of 1944, an "interim solution" armed with 37mm Flak 43 was ordered. Flakpanzer IV Möbelwagen was then modified and rearmed with 37mm Flak gun.

The model kit:

This model kit is a 1/35th scale mixed-media kit from Czech Master's Kit (CMK) of Czech Republic and is actually with cooperation from Tamiya Inc of Japan. Mixed-media meaning that it includes plastic, PE parts, white metal as well as resin all in one model kit.

Let's see what's inside the box shall we...

Inside the box:

This model kit contains four plastic sprues where two are molded in brown/olive brown and the other two in grey. Included as well is the PE parts, white metal, resin, the hull which is also in brown/olive brown plastic and rubber tracks.

Let's look closer on each parts/sprues.

The hull:

The hull comes in two pieces (top and bottom) and upon checking, it comes from Tamiya's Flakpanzer body. The rubber track is most probably comes from the Tamiya kit as well. The details are crisp and sharp and no excess fleshing or sink molds detected.

The sprues:

First let's look at the first two sprue molded in brown. Both indicates that it is from Tamiya's kit which most probably comes from Tamiya's Flakpanzer sprue. The sprue mostly has the parts to be added on the hull of the tank including the wheels. The sprues are clean with no fleshing or sink molds visible and the details are sharp and crisp.

The next sprue which is molded in grey is most probably is from CMK's. Most parts that's attached on this sprue is mostly the armour and flak guns for the tank. The mold detail is a bit on the soft side and there are a few fleshing and sink molds visible on the parts.

Photo-etch (PE) parts:

The PE parts is mostly to add minor details on the model kit (of course lah... ) and there are a lot of parts that will need to be cut, folded and glued on the PE fret.

White metal parts:

The white metal parts is also to add additional details like hooks and other small detail.

Resin parts:

There's only one resin part (small part) included in this model kit which is to be added on the model. It is cleanly casted and no bubbles are visible.

Overall:

In a whole, I think this model kit will turn to a very nice model if completed but you need to have at least some model building experience as there are quite a few sanding and filling needs to be done. I myself purchase this model just because the unique look of the tank plus I wanted to try building a mixed-media for a change.

That's all for my review of this model kit.

Silantra - September 26, 2007 05:34 AM (GMT)
actually it's not really weird..
most CMK plastic kit have wierd looking box art..hehe
the actual flakpanzer is based on panzer 4 chasis and with the 3.7cm flak..normally the side armour is lowered....hehe

PoohBear - September 26, 2007 05:46 AM (GMT)
Ah..this ought to look nice with the armour lowered. :)

Durid,
look forward to your tank build soon!

I think tamiya did the same tank but in plastic ONLY. Could anyone share this kit's finished product here too?

Silantra: Wah, sempat lagi lari ke HHQ from Putrajaya?

PoohBear: It looks wierd with the armours up and that's what actually caught my eye... the wierd look... With the armour down, it will look much better because as Zaidi mentioned, it is just a Panzer IV chasis with a 3.7cm flak.

SAC33: Yes, Tamiya did produce the same thing and it's all in plastic. Tamiya provides the hull and all the Panzer IV parts in this model kit while CMK produces the 3.7cm flak and the resin, pe as well as the white metal parts. To tell you the truth, I think the Tamiya ones will have less problem to build because the CMK flak parts (molded in grey) as I mentioned in the review has a lot of cleaning and filling that needs to be done.
