Title: 50th Merdeka GB: 1/72 Aermacchi MB-339
Description: Hopefully another contribution
druid_99 - April 19, 2007 01:13 AM (GMT)
Hi all,
This might be another contribution from me for the 50th Merdeka Group Build. I'm going to build the Aermacchi MB-339. The model kit that I'll be using will be the 1/72 Super Model Aermacchi MB-339 A.

First of all, the overall view of the model kit. This model has raised lines and the interiors are using decals. I won't be rescribing the lines as it will take me years to rescribe all the lines . Two sprues are included molded in grey plastic and one clear sprue (not photographed).
Cockpit and seats, note the lack of details on it... <_<

Sprues:

I will be using the decals from VFA plus the correction inserts.

Wish me luck... :D

Good choice, and good timing, some ref photos are available at the Alor Star base open day thread...
check out the front wheel of this kit, it was molded in a raised position...
for the color, Tamiya Dark yellow is a good match for the brown..

Ok, since the additional family member recently, I have not that much time to do much on anything.
First of all, I decided to add some details on the ejection seat. Just added some plastic strips and rods to give it some detail. I will need to fill in a large hole on the head rest on one of the ejection seat. By doing this, I will also need to put new seatbelts to replace the ones that will be sanded during the hole-filling process.
Here are the side view of the seats. Not much details but I will add a bit more just to make it more "crowded".

After much consideration and thinking back and forth, I finally decided to remove the raised lines and rescribe a new one on the plane. This is how I do it. Using a permanent marker, I follow the raised lines that is on the body. When that is done, I lightly sand the raised lines leaving the line mark on the part. Then, using the Hasegawa tritool set and "pimple popper" (the device that has a sharp pointy needle at one end and a metal loop on the other end, available at Guardians, Watsons or even TESCO  ) I carefully scribe the lines.

The red thing is the masking tape I use to hold the body halves together to make it easier to scribe lines that is joined on both halves of the body.

Close up on the lines.

That's all for now...
By the way, Masterqq, how do I tackle the front landing gear since you mentioned that it is molded in raised position? I assume that I have to cut it off and reduce the height, right?

Imran,
If you need a very close-up of the landing gear, just let me know. I can share it with you. This was taken at the Butterworth air base. Copyright to me.
The problem is, I don't know how to post it here. Maybe if I can e-mail it to someone and post it here. Sarge needs help!!
Also, the access panel of the port and starboard side of the plane, in detail.

Druid.. Good call or rescribing the line, I mean this kit was produce in the 90's, i don't understand why supermold have the line raised like a hill.. :o
anyway, the kit front landing gear is like this..

and It should be like this.....

see the different... all you gotta do is cut the hydraulic suspension rod (or what ever it call) a bit and bengkok the wheel to match the photo above.. hope this help..
Bud,
Send the photo to me, My photo above is not so clear

No pictures but it's coming along slowly. I have drilled all the holes on the air intake (I think) somewhere at the rear because from the picture it is actually sunken instead of at the same level of the body (I hope you understand what I'm trying to say  )
I was also thinking of removing the steps on the sides of the cockpit and making it in open position.

Ok, progress report. Sorry, only one picture because after this picture is taken, the battery on the digital camera is out!!
It does not show clearly but if you focus hard enough, you can see the holes that I've drilled open for the air vents. It still needs cleaning up and some lines needs to be scribed as well but all and all, the scribing process is already 90% completed.
