Title: CT Camp Strike, Malaya
Description: WIP
Loo CK - March 18, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
Guys, starting this to chart the progress.
The dio base so far has more foliage. The 'leaves' come from dried flowers that I bought at the 5th level Florist shop at Alamanda, Putrajaya. Hope this shop sticks around long enough as this guys are a dying breed in KL.
The trunks are standard twigs while the crown and branching comes from dried teak flowers. The base clutter is leftover wood dust from Chinese New Year POP POP firecrackers that the kids play.

the whole base should be finished by month end.
Guys, how about meeting up this Sunday ( 25/3) before the SFTPMS AGM at Cineleisure? Bring the planes?
PS: this post should read Malaysia, rather than Malaya. oops......moderator pls do the honors.
aidy - March 18, 2007 04:44 PM (GMT)
Base looks nice, Loo. Thanks for all the hard work on your end.
All 4 planes are now in my care. If I can make it on the 25th, I'll bring them along.
masterqq - March 19, 2007 01:56 AM (GMT)
Loo..many thanks. this look awesome, somehow I feel that my plane is not worthy of it lah...
Loo CK - March 19, 2007 11:30 AM (GMT)
I say Thomas, don't be so modest.
Every bit contributed to make this event successful is appreciated, I am sure.
By the way, we may need more Emergency period AFVs if you guys can think of some.
Loo CK - March 19, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
update.
Just put on the 1st layer of foliage on the 2nd part of the base. With a bit of persistance, it should be ready this weekend to fit in the huts and the planes. Fingers crossed. Pics to come later.

Looks real nice Loo, and that's just the base!
Anyway, if the diorama is to depict an event before 1963, there is no need to change the title to 'Malaysia'
modelstarter - March 20, 2007 08:46 AM (GMT)
i dont think theres a 5th floor at almanda, i think u mean second floor
nice groundwork BTW

Update.
Did some work yesterday night and am glad to say that the trees are 95% completed. What's left is the river and the shrubs. Then the base can be completed to be distributed to the rest of the team.
PoohBear - March 22, 2007 03:44 AM (GMT)
Great, look forward to seeing it on Sunday. :D
Loo CK - March 22, 2007 02:19 PM (GMT)
sneak preview before I complete the river and base. The basic coat of paint is in without the nitty gritty touch up of the individual trees. I will leave the minute touch up for last if time permits. As it is, I am 3 weeks behind schedule to complete the Merdeka Build proposal paper.

the 2 edge panels. The one on the left is to site the Camp. The one on the right is the hill approach,

Fantastico, mate.
Spot the Soldier? He's on the right edge panel about 1/3 from the front of the pic under one of your trees. :P
beachbum - July 25, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)
Loo as requested 2 huts which are good to go. Best I can do as I've realized working at 1/72 is tough. The bigger hut is suppose to be the living quarters while the smaller one with roll up sides is the meeting cum mess hut. The figure for comparative purpose is HO scale or roughly 1/87th.

Loo CK - July 25, 2007 04:05 PM (GMT)
now u did it and upped the expectation of the base quality with your detailed work on the huts......

this is how it looks now. I have abandonned the water and had a info panel slot in instead

photos a bit dark and the stuka is there for scale. Just a bit more washes and foliage highlight and we are ready for this weekend meet up.
Cheers
LOO
beachbum - July 25, 2007 04:18 PM (GMT)
:D My huts are so badly made even a wild boar will think twice before staying in one. The scale is off too. 1/72 is a tough scale to work with. We could still go with the river when we meet up if you're still game. Shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to get it done.
I was hoping we meet during the Sunday clinic at Outpost instead. Might be better to have a combined crowd and besides we may get to 'poison' more of the guys at the clinic to join the Merdeka GB, especially when the get a glimpse of the size and work done by you on the base. Can we get Aidy and Mr. B on board for Sunday too?
mr b - July 25, 2007 11:15 PM (GMT)
Loo and Beachbum
That is just great great work.......!! The water will be nice Loo it will compliment the entire piece (up to you guys actually) just a suggestion....NOT that is not enough as it is....
I am sorry, but Sundays are not good for me...so will not be able to join you "talented" folk actually very talented folk there .....anyways have fun....pls post some pics here.....if its Saturday its fine for me.... :D
Thanks again guys
Rgds
Mr B
PoohBear - July 25, 2007 11:51 PM (GMT)
Loo / Bum dude,
Great masterpieces from both of you which will go very well together. This one is a must see!
Loo CK - July 26, 2007 01:12 AM (GMT)
CK, I was thinking about the same, to meet up on Sunday instead because Saturday may not be good now as there are some activities in my kids school which parents are invited.
Aidy and Mr B, do pls try to make it as we will hang around until late afternoon/ early evening. It will be great to have the MGB contributors there.
Cheers.
Loo
ps : Mr B/Aidy: will likely handover the dio to you guys to mount the plane this Sunday.
koowilliams - July 26, 2007 03:28 AM (GMT)

Its good to have you back here KooWilliams, hopefully you'll can spare more time to drop in more often. You are right in that it will not be easily transportable. Luckily Loo has designed it in such a way its very light and can be broken into sections. Btw Loo did most of the work, my contribution is very minimal (making ugly huts, poor commies  )
Silantra - July 26, 2007 03:42 AM (GMT)
once again the combo CK brothers did it again.... amazing !!
btw, if you guys need advice on transporting the dio let me know...coz somehow along the way i developed my own way of good transport jig.. hehe
koowilliams - July 26, 2007 04:16 AM (GMT)
no worry, Mr Bum... that is what makes a hut a... well HUT... it involve no high end architectural work, right...
dremel - July 26, 2007 04:26 AM (GMT)
GOOD TEAM N GOOD JOB AS WELL ;)
Loo CK - July 26, 2007 06:51 AM (GMT)
Mr.B:
seems it's still more in favour of the stream. So back to the workroom tonite....
beachbum - July 26, 2007 09:07 AM (GMT)
Loo leave the water part for the river to me. All we need is just a shallow depression painted Tamiya khaki. I'll bring my acrylic glue on Sunday to add in the 'water'.

wah i cannot tahan but to laugh it out...
that line sounds like this two hero are about to take out a super-action-packed mission on a villian who is about to rule the world...
imagine they are in enemy territory, at night, raining, with automatic machine gun with them - hiding behind some huge container, looking forward to thier targeted tower, before it, stands a bunch of rookie guards patroling their intended path.... and CK begin to say:
"loo, you take these guards out. leave the super-muscular-gunner to me. All we need is just to get to that tower. I'll call our trusty B2 Bomber "squad" once we de-activate thier 'super-warhead-9000' bomb"
oiyoh... now i started the OT thing pulak... ahhah sorry eh guys, esspecialy Mr. Bum.
Loo CK - July 26, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
Okey dokey terrain master. I have got some of the ground work done for the connecting piece and will leave the wet parts to you.....
Just the final green stuff and oil wash to do to complete it.

Since Koowilliams has set the scene nicely for both of us I should reply to Loo:
"Roger that Blue Leader, All Tangos will be dealt with Extreme Prejudice, Out"
Actually Koowilliams you missed out the part where Loo then says that he will also take out the sleeping quarter where 50 guards are sleeping en route to blowing up 2 tanks, 1 Command vehicle, 3 bunkers and 1 water tank (the water tank being optional) after he has sent the mess hall and its 20 occupants or so to see their maker. They don't call him PE Loo for nothing, you know. :D
Btw Blue Leader, I only need a 2 cm or so wide stream and maybe at the most 0.5cm deep. Fire when ready. Green Leader Out.
Loo CK - July 27, 2007 02:53 AM (GMT)
Green Leader,

hope this works too as the little stream you asked for is now a true blue (or khaki) sizeable river! No indentations though. I have only beefed up the banks with a thick layer of plaster. Can this works?
After this we need to rearm ourselves this a few sticks of Moon travellers. The urge of childhood mischief is raging!
beachbum - July 27, 2007 04:08 AM (GMT)
At this point Blue Leader its a negative. From the visual its a bit too wide so we may have to shrink it down a bit. At this scale too wide a river may be a bit tricky to pull off. Your work todate is top notch Blue Leader.
No problem, we can leave it as it is. Make the stream in the middle of the grey area. Cover the remaining gray areas with sand to denote eroded and exposed banks for the flanks Blue Leader.
That's an affirmative on the Moon travellers. Getting Moon travellers will be top priority. Going into Indian country (as used to describe the NVA held boonies in Vietnam) without the right ordinance is an unacceptable risk. After Merdeka GB we can send the lot in Harm's way as one glorious, grand fireball.
Lock n Load Ladies, its show time. Green Leader out.

They're coming in hot, Blue Leader. Looks like the poor Tangos in the hut will have a few 500lb cornflakes for breakfast.
Great teasers which should get the juices flowing for those civvies still waiting in the sidelines. ;) How about a couple of these excellent up close and personal recon shots in Top Gun Thomas thread in the Announcements section, Blue Leader?
Top notch handiwork, Blue Leader. Green Leader out.
KIRIN - August 1, 2007 01:44 AM (GMT)
May be we should have a few soldier having their bath at the river :D :D
beachbum - August 4, 2007 06:50 AM (GMT)
Blue Leader, Blue Leader. We have a visual on the river over....
River level is at low tide with several sparse bushes added. No Tangos in or around river. Call in the Tigers and bring on the Rain.

Green Leader Out.
