Malaysia to receive six Sukhoi-30MK fighter jets from Russia in May
QUOTE
Malaysia to receive six Sukhoi-30MK fighter jets from Russia in May

16.02.2007

Malaysia's air force said Friday it expects to receive six Russian Sukhoi-30MK fighter jets in May - the first batch of 18 jets it purchased in 2003.

"It is anticipated that the first batch of Sukhoi-30MKs will be officially handed over to the Malaysian government in April 2007 in Russia, with the physical arrival in the country beginning May," the Royal Malaysian Air Force said in a statement.

The arrival of the jets - bought in a deal worth US$900 million (EUR 750 million) - is "neither premature nor delayed," it said, denying a local news report that the delivery had been pushed back by a year.

The New Straits Times newspaper reported Thursday that the jets would be delayed partly because Malaysia had asked for some Israeli components to be replaced with parts made in other countries.

The newspaper quoted unidentified sources as saying that Russian and French-made avionics had replaced an Indian-Israeli-French combination, while an Israeli electronic countermeasure system was changed to a South Africa version.

Malaysia does not have diplomatic or trade ties with Israel.

But air force public relations officer Zulkiflee Abdul Latiff said the use of Israeli components was not an issue. "The fittings are made according to RMAF requirements," he said.

The purchase of the 18 Sukhoi-30s will make Malaysia one of the largest operators of the high-tech jet in the region after India and Vietnam, officials said. Indonesia has ordered 12, while Thailand is mulling a possible purchase

in other source...
- its been said that our MKM will be very much the same as India's MKI (externally) while internally would be different as stated in the above article and for the same reason..

so hopefully by May we could see the paint scheme that they (TUDM) will use on this SU-30MKM... just hopefully its not that "boring" dark grey scheme again.... :ph43r:

anyhow... what ever the scheme.. i'll build mine according to the suggestion made my ScaleNutz on their TUDM SU-30MKM decal sheet..2 tone Splinter Camo :D for our Merdeka Group Build..
- and will follow the MKI as much as possible to make to our own MKM..

if anyone got any more info.. can share here.. :D

the anticipation.... :D

AFAIK the Sukhois would be in the 'boring' scheme :( . Well they can be as boringly grey as they can be, as long as they put cool tail markings on the Sukhois!

masterqq - March 1, 2007 01:53 AM (GMT)
'boring' scheme is good for modelers.....tak payah masking... :D

f-4dablemodels - March 1, 2007 09:15 AM (GMT)
I've heard that there are at least 2 aircraft in TUDM markings in Russia, probably to facilitate flight crew training.

Hi Kuman and Gang,

On this subject, just wonder if there is enough references or resin parts to build our Su-30MKM model from say Academy or Trumpeter 1/32 Su-27 kit.

Thank you in advance for the help here.

f-4dablemodels - March 2, 2007 02:23 AM (GMT)
I think SOL of Korea used to have some 1/48 SU-30 or SU-35 conversion set.

Hopefully they'll be here for the Merdeka Parade...just for appetizer! The main course would be of course during LIMA 07.

Updates

the new TUDM SUkhoi SU-30MKM was featured in an article in the latest TEMPUR magazine (March 2007)..
IIRC the title says something like this "TUDM Sukhoi SU-30MKM is taking shape but i didnt get the magazine because i skim through the article.. all they have there just information on the internal of the SU-30 not the external parts and alsot he article lask of any usable SU_30MKM picture that i find really rare (for now)...

but they do extensively discuss about the India SU-30MKI and have a lot of pictures of that variant.. :(

well i guess have to wait for any picture elsewhere then... :D

just to update you guys...

and if anyone can find any reliable SU-30MKM pictures, do share ok... :))

yup.. some one could consider producing those conversion since the SOL of Korea COnversion have been long OOP (out Of Production)... can be a hit since now TUDM going tho have their own SU-30 :D

so any takers on the conversion set.. :)

kuman

f-4dablemodels - March 6, 2007 09:44 AM (GMT)
No, F-4DableModels does not plan on doing a Su-30 MKM conversion.

Last year, a modeller called Bob Loh built a hypothetical TUDM Su-30MKM out of the Academy Su-27UB which was featured in Perajurit and then displayed in HHQ for a shortwhile (before it was bought), did his own modifications.

Maybe he can be persuaded to do a resin conversion?

This is cool!!!! Will it coming to aerospace show in May? Or LIMA at dec?

kuman - March 12, 2007 02:13 AM (GMT)
that is a very cool angle of the aircraft... but unfortunately that is not our TUDM's SU-30MKM. thats a IAF SU-30MKI which our TUDM's one will be based on... :D

cool picture nonetheless... :)

well its being said that our MKM will make its debut public appearance in LIMA 2007... so that wil be the place to go to see the TUDM SU-30MKM in real life... (guess who's already making plans for it :D )

Externally the MKM would be similar to the MKI.

Hopefully the Sukhoi would first make a flypast during Merdeka Day Parade. (And hopefully the RTM camera crew don't screw up like they did when the PT-91M was unveiled in 2005)

saberjet

thanks for the picture and info... but i believe that is just the MK version not the MKM/MKI.. since it lack of the obvious enhancement which are the front canard and the TVC engine..

also its already being confirmed that Algeria also ordered the SU-30MKA :D

Hi Kuman,

While looking thru my file/photos, found these for you.
If you want more info on the Su-30 MKM, ask
Viacheslav Y. AVERIYANOV - 1st class test pilot.

Photo taken with him at LIMA 2003.

I have reprinted the poster in A4.
Not sure I still have them anymore as I gave them away at LIMA'03 and
pameram.

This photo gives you a better idea of the conard.

Hope it helps with your project.
Are you building the Su-30 MKM in 1/72 or 1/48?

MIG21
btw... i have the picture of the canard since i believe it would be the same for for all MKI & MKM version, what i have doubt is the top of the tail fin..

and thanks for the collection of photos...by the look of it, TUDM SU-30MKM would have the tail fin exactly like the India's MKI..:D

i'm building mine in 1/48 scale... and its big compared to the MIG-29 1/48 scale.

sabrejet
- that is an awesome cutaway... by any chance you have it in bigger picture? cant make out the parts listing by looking at the picture :D

thanks guys..

KUMAN,

I was down at the PRANGIN MALL last night and bought myself an SU-30MK. This is from the Trumpeter stable. Not too good. It does not come with the canard forplane. This one is probaly an Su-27UB trainer designated Su-30M.

sabrejet...

u beat me to it... :D

i was about to go visit that place this Sunday... :(
by any chance they till have this kits in stock...

and you're right... this is the SU-27 designated as SU-30MK...
and the lack of canard is a characteristic of SU-30MK.... i believe India Air Force have this MK as well...

thanks for the info sabrejet

kerastangan - April 5, 2007 02:36 AM (GMT)
I believe that the Trumpeter kit depicts (more or less) the Su-30MKK of the PLAAF.

Bud Bilko - April 5, 2007 04:05 AM (GMT)
Guys,

What I can tell you is that Sabrejet pics was spot on. Picture this in all tactical Grey colour. Speak no more...

Sarge.

MiG21 - April 5, 2007 04:35 AM (GMT)
Druid,

Where are you?
Would you be kind enough to scan and post the Su-30 MKM photo I sent you.

Guys, have a look at the color scheme for Su-30MKM we "proposed" at Lima 2003.

Then you decide.

Thank you Druid in advance.

druid_99 - April 5, 2007 04:40 AM (GMT)
Sorry guys.

Yesterday was very hectic. I'll try to scan all the pictures and post it tomorrow.

MiG21, thanks for the pictures.

sabrejet - April 5, 2007 05:13 AM (GMT)
Kuman,

I have a Dragon Su-27 to the same scale. This is a better kit than the Trumpeter's offering. All I need is the twin-wheel nosegear and the taller fin with straight tops from the latter kit and marry them to the Dragon's. This should take care of the differences. But I'll not try to install the canard forplanes because the gap between the wing leading edge and the canards is too small as is that between the trailing edge and the tailplanes which makes any alterations very difficult.

There's still one left in the shop, but amigo it's not going to do you any good. The wing chord is a little short, but more problematical is that it is seriously short in length. And the short fall is spread throughout the fuselage.

Miggy,

It's not about BAD PR! It's about surprise and more surprises!! The more the guessing game, the more exciting it becomes for modellers.

Bud Bilko
suprises is good... i guess by the time they're here in May, more picture of the scheme can be made avaiable to the public.. just hopefully we dont have to wait until December (LIMA 07) to actually see the scheme they opt for it.. i really which its not the overly Grey (Tactical Grey) like the rest of the fleet... but it does up to us to model them to some extent.

Anyone knows the official color?
BS or FS ?

Brutus - April 6, 2007 01:53 AM (GMT)
Sorry to spoil all the fun and the agony of the feet.....No surprises and No more waiting, the color you guys need to stock up is the GREY

All aircrafts in the TUDM will be with that color from now onwards except those in the VIP squadron and also the choppers. Well, what you guys are waiting for? Go to the nearest hobby shop and stock up those paint. :P

MiG21 - April 6, 2007 01:54 AM (GMT)
Hi Kuman,

Tak dapat cari the kedai lah.
Sabrejet tak kasi tip!
Only jumpa Hong Kong Video.
I ended up beli DVDs!

So jangan risau, the kit is still there waiting for you.
Let us know if you manage to get it.

I suspect nanti Sabrejet akan pergi sapu kit yang terakhir itu. :D
Mak Salleh itu....... B)

Hi Bud,

What surprised?

Oh...as a modeller I for one would not waste my time to do a model not knowing the actual scheme.

Would you?

MiG21 - April 6, 2007 02:00 AM (GMT)
Hi Brutus,

Sorry my last post was posted just 2 second after yours.
I guess I was writing it not knowing you were responding to the color scheme.

I guess we still have to hear and see it officially. Don't we?

Can the DOD confirm it?
E.g GRAY what gray? What code?

All they need is a simple PR exercise to entertain modeler who later
is doing the PR thing to promote their SU-30 MKM thru exhibition.

Is that too much to ask for?

Brutus,

Goodness gracious, how simple can it be. A grey is a grey. Here's some color charts. Please to pick up that THE GREY for me. Thanks, buddy.
