Title: WIP: MG Kampfer for FFF's KKKKK
Description: ...for online competition

xamel1975 - January 31, 2007 12:20 PM (GMT)
It's been awhile since I last post my WIP here. Some are still pending (especially the Zero-G's Hazelnut GB HiZack). Here's my current WIP that run simultaneously with my Hazelnut WIP.

FichtenFoo Forum (FFF) have started an online contest called K is for Krazy Kustom Kampfer Kompetition (KKKKK). I decided to join the fun; plus, give me a reason to complete my pending MG Kampfer.

What's done so far:

Shoulder spike mod - I sharpen the spikes by adding a 2mm styrene sheet and file it to shape.

Shoulder armor - so far I've only added minus mold

Arms - Minus mold added

Chest - A little detail added. I made a hole at the side of the pilot hatch and made an 'indentation' at the bottom of the hatch.

Crotch/groin - add minus mold at the side of the front groin area. I also drilled detailing holes at the corners of the front groin area. The hip joint was covered using Kotobukiya's flat thruster bells.

The thigh - right now I just snap them up.

Minor update:

I modify the upper arm by giving it a bit more angles and make it a bit bulky.

Update:

Knee cap modification - making the knee cap angular. I use styrene strips as the guide and later apply some 2 part epoxy putty. then, I sand them off to desired shape.

There's very minimal progress going on currently that I feel not worth showing at the moment. Once I've got some major work done, I'll post them. Meanwhile, I've searched the 'Net for photos of Kampfer pilot, Mikhail Kaminsky. There's not many available and this is the best one out there.

I'm planning on sculpting a 1/20th scale figure pilot. Hopefully, I can have it completed before the groupbuild deadline (30th June).

Some background info of the pilot

Mikhail Kaminsky

This Cyclops Team member is Steiner's right-hand man, and a seasoned veteran in his own right. Notably fond of booze, Misha always enters battle with a flask of bourbon in his cockpit. This doesn't seem to impair his combat abilities, though - during his sortie in the assault mobile suit Kämpfer, Misha singlehandedly wipes out the entire mobile suit complement of the Federation carrier Gray Phantom.

Nice work friend. The Kampfer is one of my favourite enemy designes, next only to the Dom and Sazabi. Hope to see your completed build soon.

Thanks, kindredd.

Minimal update:

Bulking up the lower arm by lining up bits of 1mm styrene sheet. Later I will apply some AB putty to cover up the gaps.

Update:

Applied some A+B epoxy putty onto the lower arm. Later I will sand and fill the imperfections with grey auto putty.

Some modification on the shoulder joints. I drilled the 'holes' on the shoulder joint.

I fill in the holes using the long out-of-production MAX Factory's Brass pipe (small size). Superglued them into place and in some cases, I fill in the gaps with A+B epoxy putty... just to be sure.

Update:

Focusing on the torso. Add more details to the upper torso. I don't really like the use of cloth mesh for the energy cable that runs along the abdomen. I decide to have an energy cable that similar to Zakus. I use Max Factory's brass pipes for the energy cable upgrade. The energy cable shall be painted later.

Begin the initial work on the angular-shaped feet.

xamel1975 - June 11, 2007 03:39 AM (GMT)
Thanks, Ah Wie!

As for the hoses at the neck, I have no intention of changing it. I might just add some minor detail around that area.

Thanks, oldman. I'm planning to get some of the parts primed this weekend.

Minor update:

Minor modification on the shotgun.

Add some details behind the thigh; where an auxillary thruster is located.

Added some detail on the rear thruster bells.

My feeble attempt to sculpt the 1/20th scale pilot figure. Now still an armature wrapped with aluminium foil. Pictured here is the comparison with a sample Bandai's 1/20th scale figure.

The joint shoulder and torso joint is covered using a thruster bell which was cut approximately 4-5mm. Shoulder mobility is limited now but the joint looks more rigid. [Highlighted in the red box]

Ha ha,

Once again, I way exceeded the deadline and missed the competition. No biggie. I just want my kit to complete properly rather than rush for it and regret later. Last night + early this morning, I started sculpting the pilot figure. Slept only for one hour last night (a bit imsoniac last night). No pictures yet, sorry.

The Kampfer is still in painting process. For the past few weeks I cannot get my painting work done.
