Finally more progress, the painting is about 90% done, no weathering yet... may be I will put it to a “Search and Destroy” type of diorama later…..

The Camo looks fitting, i've got this kit as well (yet to build it though), been wondering, what are those thingies(four canisters-in-a-row) at the hips that can pop-out side-ways? Looks like catridges or grenades of some sort...

rivanic - February 13, 2007 07:37 PM (GMT)
Oops, found the answer whilst searching the Net:

"Fixed armaments: 2 x vulcan gun, fire-linked, mounted in head; 2 x 4-slot hand grenade rack, mounted on hip armor plates"

seen here: http://www.mahq.net/MECHA/gundam/f91/rgm-109.htm

Finally, more work on this, I'm also building a 2nd MS the F71 to go with the RGM.

The final setting will be a "Force Recon" diorama with a LSSC and 2 MS patrolling down a river, let see how it goes.......

kindredd - October 8, 2007 08:12 AM (GMT)
Haha! dun call yourself newbie...you are definately a master! The dio looks goog. Hope to see the completed build soon :D

Bomber Vince - October 8, 2007 10:03 AM (GMT)
one day I'll build back my gundam, think it'll be the day you completed yours, I believe that it'll be so nice and poison me to finish mine.

xamel1975 - October 9, 2007 12:01 AM (GMT)
Nice application of the camo scheme, Thomas. A Federation MS does not look good with camo all over the body.

You may need to do some hip joint modification on the F-71 to have a more dynamic pose. Just a thought.

masterqq - October 9, 2007 03:57 AM (GMT)
thanks guys..

kindredd,
Master only by name not by skill.... :D

BV,
Don't worry, I'm a super slow builder, so you can find the cure before u kena racun... :D

xamel1975,
Thanks for the advice.. will try something on that F71 later along the build, and....

beachbum - October 9, 2007 04:11 AM (GMT)
Thomas looking over your camo reminds me of a way to exaggerate or enhance camo from an article by Bob Letterman. Essentially he painted the border of the camo with a darker shade. Let's say for example in your case, for the red brown patches, at the edge or border of the red brown patch where it meets the black or the green patches, line the border with a darker shade of red brown. The same for the green, line the borders with a darker green. Just a thin line of the darker color will do. It makes the camo more dramatic.

Just a thought.

Guys,

After much delay, finally some progress ..

Here is how the dio final layout.. something like a Nam or Jaburo setting, 2 MS Force Recon team passing by a LSSC crews, The point man is armed with MP-5 and the heavy gunner have a gunpot on shoulder and a RPG, his right hand will hold a Zaku head (souvenir of prey )

Some of the Feddie LSSC Crews, these are 1/87...

Ground work was done by plaster, then added static grass and the tea leaf from tea bags, it is not enough, more to be added later..

The River,
was done with paperclay, and painted with oil paint, at first I want to do the brown water like the "teh tarik" color, then I change my mind to green water .. it was painted with blue first, then follow with green paint to the direction of water flow...this also is remove some to the paint and give depth.

After consulted my diorama sifu Beachbum, he advice me to add glue on the water surface... this will be done later......

to be continue...

Any comment and suggestion

Very nice work!!! :D WOW!!! I like the water effects. Keep it up, i want to see where this leads as i have always had problems creating water effects....

excellent layout and ground crew as well.

cheers,

Ken B)

beachbum - February 15, 2008 05:34 AM (GMT)
Well done groundwork Thomas.

I especially like the blue-green combo and it was definitely a better choice versus the teh tarik option. Your splashes of green is added just nicely to give it a sense of depth. 1-2 layers of the acrylic glue without any colors would be prefect. With about 40 minutes working time you can even make some water splashes to simulate water hitting against the legs of the Gundams.

When you get back to doing the vegetation you may want to consider drybrushing some brown and yellow randomly around the tree canopy to simulate drying leaves and a lighter shade at top of the tree canopy to simulate young leaves. It will give the canopy more depth and contrast. Optional though.

I noticed the LSSC isn't in yet. Hopefully you left a slight depression in the river bed to sink it in later, coz otherwise the hull will seem to be "floating" over the river surface. If you didn't no worries, it just means you'll have to build up the glue around the LSSC hull and tint it with the river color.

Super minor details and only if you want to add coz the water looks good as it is. Some very small, white spashes around the front of the jetty supports against the flow of the river will help emphasize the flow of the river. Very minor though.

Looking forward to more pics.

druid_99 - February 15, 2008 07:03 AM (GMT)
I like the looks of the water and I agree with our diorama "sifu" Beachbum that a few layers of glue will make the water looks more realistic.

Another tiny suggestion here. Since the Gundam is moving through the water, won't the water be slightly brown on the leg area or behind it as the soil and sand will totally be disturbed with the heavy Gundam feet. Unless the riverbed is covered in very hard stone lah...

Just a suggestion though... :D

masterqq - February 15, 2008 08:33 AM (GMT)
Thank you Beachbum SiFu and kawan kawan.. all your suggestion are very much appreciated and will be taken into consideration along the build

For the glue, Since the area is pretty big, I will try the cheapo white wood glue, it will dry clear too... if this is not shinning enough, I will shot a layer of FUTURE..hope this work

Thomas I don't think the White glue will work as well. For one white glue sometimes turn opaque over time especially if its applied too thick. It also has a tendency to shrink more than the acrylic glue making it more prone to cracking.

I don't think you need that much of the acrylic glue as it can be applied as thin as 1 mm or even less per layer. Besides its really glossy by itself. You'll need 2 layers at the most. Looking at your dio size I doubt you will use more than 1/3 of the bottle of GE glue you bought.

I probably mentioned it somewhere the one of the key to simulating water is the glossiness of the material used and its transparency. Remember this Merdeka GB dio? I reckon I used about 1/3 to cover the river. It has about 4-5 lthin ayers. Just my 2 cts.

AIYAAA Sifu... I already applied the white gule before reading your reply.. you're right, the GE glue is a much batter choice.. I try to add GE glue on top of the white glue, it won't work, it chemicaly reacted with the white glue, so I will have to use the GE glue on my next build...

anyway,
here is some progress.. with with glue before dry.. It acutally look quite dramatic with the white color on top of it.. It dry clear..

RX-78-2 - February 18, 2008 05:33 PM (GMT)
that's great dio i always wanted to do...
btw, where did u get the boat? actually i also searching high and low to find 1 suitable scale boat for a similar scene for the 08th Team!

masterqq - February 19, 2008 03:27 AM (GMT)
Dramel and RX... thanks..

that boat is a diecast toy that I got from Supermarket sometime ago, I cost around RM 5.. :D

RX-78-2 - February 20, 2008 04:37 PM (GMT)
diecast toy..... must search the supermaket...
then the 1/87 soldiers??

masterqq - February 21, 2008 02:25 AM (GMT)
RX,

The figures are from Preiser 1/87 or HO range, it was for the railroad modeling, but I think it is suitable for Gundam too..

Search the net under Preiser. It got a wide range of civilian and Military figure, molding is crisp..even in this scale..

RX-78-2 - February 21, 2008 03:07 AM (GMT)
wow! they got wide range of figures for HO scales!
and they got 1/100 and 1/144 too, but choice is not as much as HO!!!
i plan to mostly non battle scene showing the interaction of the civilians to the MS troops....

btw, what is the cost for the figures?
