With this in mind, let's have a brief member introduction. Tell us where you come from and what you do for a living (but we will leave the age part out). Share with us your scale modelling experience. Let's hope this posting will help everyone to know each member better.

Please support :) .

I am Kenny working for the government in a chemical research centre in KL. Previously worked in a construction firm and spent most my time in East Coast (far away from Cherating eeh!). Started modelling young and I still remember cycling to the local newstand to get those Tamiya 1/700th scale Waterline Series. Then, went on with Airfix, Matchbox and later Fujimi. In my school days, I was a WWII aircraft builder (just love those Stukas; anyone seen the latest Hasegawa 1/32nd Stuka) then migrated to armor modelling. Got my compressor and airbrush in Form 3 and amazingly they are still in working condition. Today with a family and baby Arg 2, I do more scale modelling painting then assembly work. Always experimenting new painting styles.

Loo CK - January 6, 2006 09:17 AM (GMT)
I am Loo from KL. Introduced to modelling by my older brother some 30 years ago back when matchbox kits at 1:72 scale and airfix kits were sold in your kedai runcit. Anybody remember those days? Was it RM2 ringgit something ,Kenny?

Currently the Loos are a family of 5, the youngest is going to be 2. I run an Architectural practice in Ampang Point with 30 staff and 4 other partners. Mostly into armor because I prefer to do dios. Can't do many dios with aircraft, but will build almost anything as long as its nice.

Close to that Loo. Those were the days when I have to skip a lot canteen food to buy those model kits. Those were also the times where mom's 'tar-pau' really helped.

Loo CK - January 6, 2006 03:33 PM (GMT)
I remember the airfix B17, mosquito and ju88 the most, and those kits are still around today :D
Ever put fire crackers into the spoilt kits when you were young and naive?

I actually stopped modelling when I was 10plus because of bad financial situation in the family. Only got back to it when I started when I did my design thesis on a military meseum in KL. Had to build a working model of the exhibition area. Did the Dragon vietnam figures ( the one carrying a wounded comrade). Went full swing when I started working and haven't looked back since. Tamiya kits was like heaven sent in the 80s. I still have some of the kits unbuilt.

Kelvin here... 3D animator by career. Been doing TV commercials and lecturing in the past but recently developed an interest in architectural visualisation. Has also been interested in miniturized models since my dad always bring home the architectural models from work (he's in the architect firm as well :) ) I like to pretend I'm Ultraman smashing up the houses haha.

Anyway I can't really recall what are my 1st model kit... but I could remember getting a spitfire/mustang (i think) from parents when I was 7 yrs old and started glueing it with UHU. Didn't really enjoy it as the glue gets everywhere. Was occasionally given model kits as presents sometimes. I guess it developed full blown for the past 5 years. Stash has been evergrowing that sometimes it becomes worrying. I need more space!!

chowhl - January 6, 2006 08:23 PM (GMT)
Hello, Chow here. Was formerly from JB myself and moved to KL sometimes in the late 70s. Gosh! that sounds like an awfully long time ago... Been in the CAD/IT industry for most of my working life and now contemplating a change... suggestion welcome!

Was introduced to modelling by a schoolmate ( who could afford every model kit on the shelves back then ... saliva dripping days for me) during my early teens and never look back since. Partial influence also due to listening to stories from my old man who was a veteran of WWII and the onset of Vietnam war era then.. " Make Love NOT War" bro....
Still keeping some of those hand painted scraps I built from yesteryears ... sob! brings tears to the eyes.. sobs!.. sniff! sniff!

Anyway, I'm was first into aircraft in the early days - Airfix, Matchbox, Hasegawa... strayed into AFVs and ships bcos of Tamiya San and then all hell broke loose thereafter ..... plastics plastic everywhere... so many brands to choose from .....
And now I have enough to last me probably 3 lifetimes and still growing albeit at a much slower rate now..

" So much plastic, so little time....sigh! "

Happy Modelling Guys!

Hi all, I am LEE come from Sandakan, Sabah. I like miniature very much since I was 6 years old (because of bad financial situation in the family, I never start modeling) but I only start my modelling hobby last year.

I start my first kit with Academy 1/48 Apache as shown as this forum. I prefer to buy "ECONOMIC" Plastic kit in the beginning but now I start to buy some Branded Kit like Tamiya, Hasegawa, Dragon and Academy.

I am a Computer Technician in my local home town. I do computer hardware, software and accessories retail/distribution. Wire and wireless network setup/management we do too.

Actually sentry is the one who make me so attracted to start my first plastic kit.
I visited his home and found that he has a lot of finished models and looking very glad. So i just doing my studies from internet (given by sentry).

I prefer Dragon, Monogram, Academy and Testor(The price is inexpensive). Mostly I build is Carrier, Warship and Helicopter. I also like to build 1/72 Scale large size Aircraft like B-36,B-29...For ship I normally like to build USS and RUSSIAN carrier. I think many modeller in Malaysia face a problem, we have no many Hobbyshop and choice in buying our favourite Kits and Models. Other than KL's MH and HHQ have plenty of choices then I think orther than that we can't find any others shop can provide such many choice and provide courrier services for oversea modeller.

Like me, I am come from East Malaysia. When I am planning to buy some kit, I only can surf for web and do online shopping. Online shopping for model kit is providing many choice but the shipping cost is very high, when you want to order many kit to save your shipping cost then another problem is occur. When kits go in quantity then the parcel will be Extreamely huge and make "KASTAM" to charge us with 15% Duties.

I hope our local plastic model kit retailer/supplier/distributor will make thier stock status online in order to let us to buy/check status through internet. Another sugestion is that, they can email the price list to all of us via e-mail.

I hope our president can help us on this, then everyone just relax sitting iat home and check for their favourite kit and make order via telephone order and pay via online banking. I think that is a great idea.

 " So much plastic, so little time too !!! "

:D Happy Modelling To All Forum Members
 Happy New Year 2006 anf Happy Chinese New Year 2006.

:D

How many kit you? Have more than 100 boxes? Haha... modeller has a disease that only like to buy but seldom start and finish their kit.

If you feel no time to build just put your kit to sell in this forum.

Or just sell to me some of them. I like to buy some from you.

kuman - January 7, 2006 01:02 PM (GMT)
:D

waa... so many history.... :)

ok now its my turn.. :)

LAN here... :) (err last time i check thats my name...so used to "kuman" already)
anyway...

work in a factory in MIS Department.. responsible for Networking, System Development, Hardware, Telephony etc.. :)

well.. i'm really into aircraft from a very long time ago.. always wanted to be a pilot with TUDM.. but problem with the eyes (curse you "KERENGGA"- they peed in my eyes when i was plucking some mangoesteen) then wearing glasses so automatically cannot join TUDM already.... so scrap that idea...

i bought quite a number of 1/144 scale completed-aircraft die-cast model when i was in the States a few years back... when i back in Malaysia then i realize.. i wanted to have a more hands-on experience.. so bought a couple of 1/48 Zhengdefu kits for a really cheap price (namely my SUkhoi SU-35, SU-27UB and SU-27(the one i'm working on ATM))

- i should have bought more when i was in the States... hmmm well...

but not until mid 2004 that i started to assemble the kits and started painting my kits.. and the Sukhoi SU-35 is my first completed assembly -painting kits.. (but no decals yes.. thus its not completed already)..

now i'm acquiring more kits... and dunno when i can finish all.. :)
but most of them are from Zhengdefu & Kitech...

anyway.. anyone got a surplus stash.. do PM me.. :)

anyway thats about it.... :)

thanks...

kuman

Hey, mine turn.

Well, i think i'm the youngest modeller here :P. Just start modelling past 5 - 6 years. Still remember that time i only a form 3 student, the first kits i bought is Gundam Sandrock Custome.
user posted image
Now, i have nearly 20 boxes of Gundam ranging from 1/400 scale to 1/100 scale.

I start military modelling 3 year ago when helping my boyfriend to build his F-15. During that time i still lack of interest in military armour. Until last year (2005), i start building military model again which is Black Cat Catalina. My interest gain as i joined the reserve army (actually i join army is because of gun :P).

My hometown is at Penang. Now study at Tunku Abdul Rahman College, Setapak. Studying Business Information System course. Will gradute soon, so still wondering what i'm going to do....

I think that's all.
Hope to learn more, so basically will try on variable works.

chowhl - January 7, 2006 04:18 PM (GMT)
Well WuiChong, there is no cure to date for this "plastic disease" spreading among us modellers worldwide. It's a terminal case once you've got it..... ;) Resistance is futile unless you quit modelling all together - cold turkey!!! Even that is no guarantee. It will eventually catch up with you sometimes down the line. Be very afraid..... my friend.

The symptoms usually appears just before payday and manifest itself immediately whenever you pop into the hobby shop .... BUYYYY... MEEEE..........

I'm already a full blown case now and no regrets........... :P Probably over 300 kits now since my last count.

Happy Modelling!!

Hi..I'm Hairil. A mild-mannered officer in a local University by day and cape wearing superhero, fighting crime and injustice by night.....OK scrap the super-hero stuff!

Start modeling when I was 12 after looking at my friend's Japanese anime kit. My first kit was a 1/144 Tomcat. Never painted my kit except for the black-colored parts using markers until I was 15! Early ventures consists mostly of Hasegawa and Tamiya and also some forgotten japanese brands.

loo, a number of my old kits have been detsroyed by firecrackers...gave me thrills at that time!

Hi Hairil,

You are not the only one having fun ..My old Airfix Tirpitz batlleship was obliterated by another Airfix lancaster carrying a Talboy bomb ( handle of an old paint brush or broom stick - can't remember which). No fire and smoke though he.. he.. :D Shiok betul trying to recreate history with models..

Wonder what the others did with their old stuff then?

Adrian here. I'm a graphic designer by profession, doing stuff from video editing to web designing. Born and raised in Kuching, I now live in KL with my wife and 1 year old son.

Started modelling when I was in primary school. First kit was an Airfix Messerschmitt Me-109, I think. My late uncle used to own one of those 'kedai runcit' and had a stash of Airfix kits.

Then for a short period was hooked on 1/700 warship. However, when I was given an Airfix 1/32 M3 Grant, I fell in love with AFVs. Started my collection of British 8th Army and German Afrika Corp kits but spent most of my adult life away from modelling.

Recently decided to get back to the hobby (stash was growing) and after several failed kickstarts, I think I've finally got the engine humming :D. Now hoping to build my own Red Army.

moJimbo - January 9, 2006 02:46 AM (GMT)
...... i'm shairon, 33 yrs not-so-old, KL-born, now staying in shah alam and working in an architect firm in Sunway PJ. i'm married with a 2+ year daughter.

my first model is hasegawa's A-7 corsair II, bought at Great Wall supermarket (!) for just RM19.90 when i was in form 3. since then i bought mostly tamiya kits as they were still cheap and widely available. i did almost all types of kits i.e: cars, bikes, aircraft, AFVs, figs and even a few ships and sci-fi (aliens & SW) models. when i was studying in UK i really got into the hobby, trying to build and paint the models in the 'proper' way...and the kit stash is growing too LOL :P

back in malaysia, due to limited space and time, i just concentrated on AFV aircraft and figures, mostly on WW2 period but a few modern stuff as well. my favorites are 1/35 AFVs or 1/48 aircrafts. mostly i build OOB but now i tend to add some AM stuff to the models and try some advanced weathering methods. thanks to communities like Armorama and SPM i learned a few tricks and met some very talented modellers.

p/s: my stash is only about 30+ kits... not as many as some of you crazy people... he he...

ianual - January 9, 2006 03:14 AM (GMT)
hi I'm Anual of Bt Caves, selangor.

being into 1/72 scale or aero's & heli's .
only recently bought my self the Enzo and Rx-8.
my major investment for this hobby is getting my first tamiya beginers air-brush kits.which is a very greattool for beginers liken me. asfter feed-up with can-spray.
still pending/unfinish build is the Apache 1/48 scale which i try to add electrics motor for the rotor-balde. still epnding for almost 3 years.

anyone still have this to sell to me???

davidlim - January 10, 2006 05:08 AM (GMT)
name's david. staying in serdang. as for job...in the HR line. hehe, first one not in the IT or Engineering line here...

started modelling when young, well actually started by destroying my brother's stash of WW2 planes when he was in canada studying...

don't really remember wat was my first kit. although i know i did a F4 phantom. and a tank when i was 10. stopped after tat, continued during my pre-uni days mainly building F-14s and F-15s. stopped after graduation (cos no $$...)

finally started when i was working in City Square...one week into my new job, colleagues told me of a shop selling models there...n voila! whole sickness comes back. DARN YOU HHQ!!!!! hehe...excuses...

then found new fetish in building robots. basically, i prefer planes (tomcat rules!!!!!), bots and star wars. may one day go back to trying tanks again...

current stash of planes...not many, bout 7 like tat. must stay away fr City Square...every trip for paint tends to results in an additional plane... <_<

Poopeh - January 10, 2006 07:57 AM (GMT)
Poopeh here, or used to be known as David Chong-lawyer by profession in KL(not by choice!). Wanted to be a military pilot all the time but didn't do well in SPM Chemistry because i was partially colour blind (didn;t know until A level-too late)(Its a wonder i can still build models).

Started my first ever kit when i was 6 i think, some small ship that comes with Indomee. Stop few years till Desert Storm when it all started again with aerosol spray cans, then tamiya paint, gradually to airbrush, humbrol, gunze etc etc.

Last stash count was about 400+ kit and stopped counting since. Dare not count now. Must be 500 plus now. Well if you can't have the real thing have the miniature ones!

Mostly i build military aircraft any scale but as Jason says i find beauty in all aircraft (maybe except 1).

Loo CK - January 10, 2006 09:24 AM (GMT)
David C, what plane may that be?? :D

Sunliners - January 11, 2006 05:14 AM (GMT)
I'm Leong from Penang. Attached with a construction company and also in the IT Dept. ;)

Started this hobby when young at the age of 9. The first kit was my birthday gift from my dad. Those days, most of the Tamiya cars & bikes were selling RM12.90 at 'New Market'. (Those from Penang, can you recall this?) Followed by Komtar - the place for modellers.

At the age of 25, infected by modeler diseases when I was in London that time where a local hobby shop was next to my friend's house. At the age of 31, an uncure virus infection - started to collect 1/32 kits which approved by 'Home Minister'. :D

Mostly build aircraft.....(Last completed project was 10 years ago :( ). My stash includes cars, bikes, ships, figures, AFVs, Sci-Fi....even a 1:1 plastic human skull. :ph43r:

Hi all, I've just registered here and I think it might be better for me to introduce myself. I'm from somewhere in Cheras and has been into serious modelling for a long time ago (nearly 10 years I think).

I'm into automotive modelling (cars to be specific) and I am currently collecting a personal stash of Ferrari models (excluding F1s) and having about nearly 40 Ferraris in my stash. My current purchase is the Ferrari F430 by Fujimi.

Other than Ferraris and other Italian autos, there are also various Japanese, Europe and American cars. I've build other models like tanks (Completed: 1 and only 1), planes (3 model - all in progress) and Gundams (Completed: 1, in progress: 4) but my favourites will always be cars.
