Here's my next figure review.... Verlinden 120mm figure kit #0628, title "US SAW Gunner Desert STorm".

Information:
US 82nd Airborne (AA - All American) Division SAW gunner. Wearing the famous 6 colour Chocolate-chip camouflage BDU (Battle Dress Uniform) during the 1990 Gulf War - Desert Storm.

The lightweight M-249 5.56mm SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) machine gun that provides additional firepower for rifle squads. The weapon uses a 30 or 200 round magazine and gives the individual SAW gunner the ability to hit targets at longer ranges and longer times than the M16s of a squad’s riflemen.

The kit:
Like most of the Verlinden figures, this Desert Storm SAW gunner comes in several parts such as head, arms, torso, legs and the soldier’s individual pieces of equipment,... All are separate components which attached to resin casting blocks. The sculpting of this figure is extremely sharp.

Kit include standard equipment carried by US soldiers during Desert Storm:
- Goggles moulded on the helmet in 1 piece
- Rucksack
- Extra ammunition pouches
- Flashlight
- M9 multipurpose bayonet
- Canteen
- Entrenching tool
- Grenades
- Medical kit... etc.

The casting of the SAW itself is also excellent and provides a realistic representation of this important infantry weapon when assembled and painted.

I'd say that this is one of the "Best" kit from Verlinden 120mm figure series.

I have to agree with you CP; it does look better than the other Verlinden 120mm figures. Thanks for the review.

I concur. The pose is a lot more natural and the molding detail very balanced.

Many thanks CP for another very good review. I know how busy you are so this is much appreciated.

I can see why this is one of your favorite figure from the batch. It definitely has better detail than the SF fig I have at the same scale from Verlinden. The Chocolate chip should be easier to do at that scale too. Can't quite tell from the pics but how was the detailing on the SAW?

CK,

Just uploaded the zoom-in of the SAW... Indead they're very detail. Notice that there's a spare hand-grib provided other than the one moulded with the hand.

Thanks for the closeup CP. Looks pretty good although the butt will require a wee bit of cleanup. Funny if DML can make their butt clear of flash like in their Sten guns at 1/35 I can't understand why Verlinden can't do the same considering it would be even easier at these larger scales. Like you I really hate those thick sprue blocks, I can never understand why they make them so thick making cutting and cleaning so tedious and most importantly, highly hazardous because of the filing required later. :(

Wuichong Verlinden's 120 mm figures can be got online but mainly from US or UK stores as LuckyModel or Hobbyeasy at HK does not carry much. As a tiny suggestion perhaps you could work on 1/16 figures from Tamiya first as their much cheaper and more easily available. Just a suggestion though.
