Nice work there mate! Would certainly love to see the final outcome of the instrument panels. Kind of heavy on the drybrushing there I would say but liked I've said, love to see the final outcome.

Just a pointer here, try to make it look like a busy panel.

Hi gentlemen sorry I was mistaken, mine was Huey HEAVY HOG not Frog. My bad for reading too fast. :o

Anyway, the kit is same just having different weapons is all. The construction should be same also.

mr. b - I liked the kit very much and did not have much problems. The decals were bad though. I did not use the (nice!) figures since I chose to display the engine. I would still consider doing another (Frog maybe?) some time in the future. It has the miniguns right?

Below is a pic of my Heavy Hog. Hope it comes out okay.

Thank you for looking and for your kind words mr b

I could be wrong but IIRC I read somewhere that mentions miniguns are in the Frog kit and that Academy did not provide the instructions to mount it. Kinda like a freebie I guess. Check your sprues to confirm?

Very much look forward to seeing yours and wuichongs builds.

PoohBear:

Thanks for your kind words and thanks for your posting here,I enjoy your built. Mind to share with me your Control Panel Painting Technique. Yours looks nice too.

mr b:

Sure I shall put in my WIP here..HEHE

Brutus:

Thanks for your pointer.

PoohBear - October 17, 2006 04:35 AM (GMT)
Hi wuichong, thanks your kind words.

This is how I did the instrument panels. Not the last word on technique but works for me.

For the front instrument panel, I started off by spraying the panel black and then filled in with neutral gray leaving a slight preshade around the edges. I sprayed Future on top of this. Once the Future was dry, I used a black ink pen to fill in the gauges (you can paint with steady hands instead). Once that was dry, I picked the needles out with white paint and touched up with the black pen where necessary. Once dry, I Future the whole thing again and do a brown/black chalk wash and finish off with a flat coat and some light dry brushing.

The center console is just flat black with light drybrushing of white / light grey to highlight the raised details.

Hope this helps you out. :D

Poohbear

I can confirm that yes indeed they are there infact spure D has mini guns the ammo chest and bench seat, so one can actually build with diffrent config....

and yes you are right not on the instruction sheet

I think it was only for the initial production batch. Later batches left out the sprue for the miniguns.

I didn't add any weights and it sits just fine.
But mine had the G-launcher up front so that may have made the difference I guess.

Any suggestion to help me improve the Panel?

use a fine brush and paint each button/switch on the panel individually using light grey, silver or white. a few dots of red and yellow here and there will also add interest.

something like this lah:

also, put some future or your favourite clear gloss in each gauge/dial face to simulate glass. build up layers until you're happy with the result. i've heard that 5 minute epoxy, which dries clear btw, would work too but never tried myself as i really dislike it's smell.

corleone - October 22, 2006 04:55 AM (GMT)
go with Aidy's suggestion, at this scale, its hard to get away with just drybrushing the panels.at this scale, painting the buttons individually is somewhat a must.if you cant find a fine brush, a needle also works wonders sometimes.

hey guys, instead of brushes...i use a mechanical pencil. it's sturdy and theres's plenty of control.

try it and tell me how it works

wuichong - October 24, 2006 02:25 AM (GMT)
aidy, corleone, nautica1973:

Thanks for your suggestions and pictures. I will try to use ur guys techniques. Thanks.

I will post some updates of WIP here after did a final painting on the panel

ahhow - October 31, 2006 03:51 AM (GMT)
I got 1 1/35 HUEY, i bought it 2nd hand for RM20.
Coz it has some missing parts... no main rotor, no side machine guns....

hope to built another in future :D

mr b - November 1, 2006 12:20 PM (GMT)
WuiChong - I used a combo of dry brushing and highlights with a toothpick.....as for the instrument panel....meter casing were coloured in with black marker....then sealed then dry brushed then painted the rim back then sealed again then matt cote....

But paint must be a minimum if no the silver will streak on the black portions....
