Title: German Soldiers with bicycle
Description: Kit review

Loo CK - September 8, 2006 12:02 AM (GMT)
This is a quick look at Tamiya's kit no MM240 consisting of 2 bicycles and 4 figures.
The kit was obviously a rebundle of an earlier figure with bicycle set which was later enhanced with new mold of the 2 german soldiers either pushing or riding the bicycle.

the bundled figure with the bicycle parts sprue is obviously an older mold as the details are not as crisp as the other sprue. The parts for the bicycle are rudimentary at 1:35 scale but should sufficiently construct well with Tamiya's reputation for sound and sensible construction. The tire spokes are a bit oversized but can be expected due to the limitation of injection molding. The bicycle chain would have been in a different class if the master was made in the 21st century but this kit wasn't. Details are absent on the chain which looks more lika a rubber band.

the figure sprue fared better and I was pleasantly surprised by the facial expression which was quite good. Breakdown of the parts and the details are good enough to pick out with washes and highlights.

the marking on the sprue indicates this at year 2000

not by any means up to the Gen2 Dragon series but good enough considering I paid only RM21 recently for this in Daisheng Petaling St. TU is selling them at RM38 nett, but will offer a discount . Negotiate if you have to.

that's the excellent box art.

Overall, this is a nice set and will make an excellent vignette. To improve it, Lion roar has an excellent PE set which will cost you in the region of RM30plus per set of 2 bicycles but well worth the money. Look out for a review in this section later.

Now to carve out this set to remodel them to Japanese soldiers..... I have 3 boxes to go! B)

Very good review Loo. I have the same set as well and its as you say a pretty decently detailed kit. Hope to see the full review in the figure review section but I reckon this review is good enough to move to the Figure Review section if you don't have the time to do another one.

CK,
I will be doing a build log on this after I complete the F14 this weekend. Look out for it as I will be adding the LionRoar set and converting the soldiers to Japanese for a Malaya dio.

I reckon we can still move this review to the Figure review section my co-moderator and your addition of the PE sets and build log which I'm looking forward too as I'm sure others are, will enhance the review. No need to write another more detailed review. I'll leave it to you.

Hmm.....PE sets for bicycles, what will they think of next.
