Title: Photo Resource for WWII
Description: Photos Only

beachbum - August 5, 2006 02:22 AM (GMT)
Hi All,

Looks like the Resource section is moving along nicely. I'd like to introduce the Photos resource for WWII so that any photos forumers have can be posted here. I will put up a separate post or anyone else can start it for photos from the Emergency period once pics are available.

We are very fortunate to have the following photos due to the effort of our resident, Sgt. Bud Bilko who I'm posting on his behalf. There are photos taken by 2 gentlemen, En. Sager Ahmad and En. Shahrom from the Malaysian WWII Wreck team from Rompin. To these 2 gentlemen, we owe you our many thanks for allowing us the use of these photos in our Resource section. The photos will be greatly appreciated as a valuable resource as they offer a rare glimpse into our heritage.

For the men of the ill-fated B-24 Liberator, may you find everlasting peace.

All pics have been downsized for web loading purposes. Before I get even more long winded to the photos.....

The first one is of En. Sager himself next to the B-24 wreckage.

Here is a write-up from the owners of the photos:
"Below are the details of the ill-fated B-24 Liberator that crashed between
Jelebu and Kuala Pilah in Negeri Sembilan on July 30, 1945 (according to a
log in the book: Force 136 by Tan Chiong Tee) after inserting 5 guerilla
Force 136 at Kg Langkap, Negeri sembilan. The plane was flying from Cocos island probably on a moonlit nite.
The right tail fin hit a tree on the ridge, chopping it clean and the fin
dropped off, it is there below the ridge about 10 feet from the top.
The aircraft must have spun out of control and smashed against the valley
about 200 meters down strewing bits and pieces of the aircraft's body (not
visible from the ridge as it is covered by jungle). Found one section of the
wing with the wheel still inside (the wheel will fold into the wing on
takeoff) and the wheel has new thread and is still tight full of air.
The other wheel and nose section burnt on impact. Part of the pieces of
wreck are two set of wheel hubs, a large three piece clustered still
attached to a huge strut from the main wheel under the other wing and a
single wheel hub from the nose wheel.
The biggest chunk intact is the tail section, the size of half a railway
coach and the left stabeliser the size of a Kancil car still attached to it.
All 6 crews members on board were killed on impact. (May God bless their
souls).
Among the 5 gurella Force 136 was team leader Major Fenner, who became
Malaya's 1st post war Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tan Sri Sir Cloude
Fenner. Below are the latest photos from the B-24 Liberator's wreck that
bore the letter 'R' im red and above it 'SNAKE' in black. Aircraft bearing
'SNAKE' said to have been refitted for operations in the Tropics.
All the best.

Col-Rod.
P/s
this was a 10 year 'reunion' with the aircraft, 1st visited it in Aug, 1996.
The info below was dug up by our very resourceful webmaster Shah Ahmad:

RAF 356 Squadron. B-24L-15-FO Lib B.VI
RAF Serial KL654/R / US Serial 44-49993
Delivered to RAF May 1945
Manufactured by Ford Motors Co.
KL654/R description. Exterior - White finish.
Interior- Alclad finish. Bottom of the waist gunner got an escape hatch
meant for bailing out or throwing out Force 136 agent and supplies. Also got
one photo camera mounting near the hatch. Ball turret was removed to save weight and to carry more fuel on board. Interesting to find that the plane was overall painted in white and had metal finishing on several places.

I did not find any camo olive drab, brown etc on the upper side of the plane
or the wings even on the bottom at the wreck plane."

A special note of thanks again to Bud. Sgt. Bilko "we commend you for your initiative above and beyond the call of duty in the Resource Section of SMM" (even though you may have failed your Econs paper). :)

Looking forward to more photos from all forumers. Thank you.

A very big thanks to Bud and CK. This is a giant step to making the information available on the mainstream. HOLD THE PRESSES!

Loo Bud is the one that deserves a Citation. Loo buddy, any chance you can help kickstart the Emergency Photo Resource with some pics? Thanks.

Bud Bilko - August 5, 2006 04:22 AM (GMT)
Beachbum,

Yes, should be no problem. Sager has a huge collection of Emergency Period photos. I'll speak to him. Some of the photos were taken by his father during the period. Stay tune matey's.

And oh yes, I'll keep sending you more pic of the ill fated B24J code name Snake. The birdie flew from Cocos Island on the 23rd August 1945 for a supply mission at Kuala Pilah. It never returned to base.

RIP for all the crew.

Sarge Bilko

I have a Drawing Of WW2 Buffalo VS Zero back in 1996.

But now i realize the color of the Zero maybe wrong...

How to attach a picture here?

I unable to do it.

Can anyone help?

Capt Goh

Loo CK - March 18, 2007 03:19 PM (GMT)
Capt,
to make it sweet and simple, register yourself at http://s12.photobucket.com.
You can then start uploading pics but make it not more than 800x600 so that the upload is faster.
After that you can use the 'img' button to copy the picture's http address which is given to every different picture you upload to photobuckets. The steps, when you are posting a new entry are, press 'img', paste the http of the picture, press 'img' again to close. You are then done.
If its too much of a hassle, just email the pics to me and I will upload it. My email is cklooarc@gmail.com

Welcome aboard, Capt.

A very warm welcome aboard the SMM forum Capt Goh. Many thanks for your kind contribution. The link works fine.

gohkl80 - March 20, 2007 09:44 AM (GMT)
Thank You

On the last trip to the B-24 KL654 i was biten on the head by a very huge leech.

The Blood Sucker!

But on that trip we manage to identified positively the plane was B-24 KL654 R 'SNAKE' after we found the serial number on the port outer engine. Some personnel artifacts like 2 rings, belt buckles, jackknife were recovered there too.

priceless pics!
Hope there is more to come!
Personally, I am trying hard to collate all this images and turn them into a good collection of scale models before they dissappear. The jeep pic is really good and unique.
