Hi All,
Although this review is late as I’m sure most of you have seen some of the figures from CKLoo’s earlier posting of the completed figures. Nevertheless, it’s only fitting that this set, due to the generosity of Tamiya Underground, 1U, receive a review similar to its counterpart, the Panzergrenadiers which I did some time back.
So here goes:
IntroductionThe inclusion of this set of WWII American GI’s represents the Allied side of Tamiya’s 1/48 range. Should this and Tamiya’s other 1/48 offerings find a following it will be very likely to see the company venturing further by adding additional Allied and Axis ground forces to the current line of Panzergrenadiers and German Infantry set.
The American GI’s represented here are kitted out for the European theatre in what appears to be a combo of M1941 (2 pockets and waist length) and M1943 (4 cargo pockets and hip length) field jackets as far as I can tell.
The SetAs with most of Tamiya’s boxart this one does not disappoint as the illustrations are generally good.

Opening the box one will find 4 sprues of typical Tamiya grey styrene. 2 of the sprues contain 15 figures (as seen in the following 2 photos) while the remaining 2 contain identical sets of equipment and weaponry.

The 15 figures include 2 tankers in a ¾ and ½ body length configuration. With the exception of the 2 tankers the majority of the figures are depicted in action poses with 3 of figures firing their weapons. Flash is present along seam lines requiring sharp eyes, steady hands and patience to clean up. The poses appear to be downsize versions of the 1/35 figures, the mold of which has been around a very long time. As with the Panzergrenadier set, molding of faces and clothes is soft while the fingers and hands much better in terms of details.
Equipment on the other hand as can be seen in the photo below of 1 of 2 identical sprues is decently detailed and varied. Besides the standard M1 Garand rifles and Thompson SMG there is a nice assortment of bazookas, Browning BAR’s and .30 caliber LMG’s.

The instruction sheet as with most Tamiya kits is straightforward and clear.
Comments/RecommendationsThis set is better suited for a diorama setting rather than as a standalone, dedicated figure set in view of its detail and scale. It would be a set that even beginners to figures should have no problem with but the more serious figure enthusiast may have to take into consideration the designated use of these figures.
AknowledgementsThe reviewer would like to thank Tamiya Underground for graciously providing the above set for an exclusive in-box review here on this forum.
