NGE Questions

Can Tailors still make BE clothing?

Yes, we can. However, we can only use tissues that were crafted by bio-engineers before the NGE.

Who makes BE tissues now?

No one. The ability to create BE tissues was removed along with the Bio-Engineer profession.

Do BE clothing modifiers still work?

That is unknown. There are reports that Terrain Negotiation still works, but the others are a mystery. Presumably the tissues that did not work prior to the NGE still do not work.

What kinds of bonuses can be placed in bio-engineered clothing?

Here are the kinds of bonuses that can be placed in bio-engineered clothing, followed by the names of the tissues that give those bonuses. Can’t you make those?

Well, first of all, many bonuses come from clothing attachments, which are looted objects that can be added to already existing clothing. Secondly, there are some clothing items that are made from looted schematics. These have bonuses built in. Thirdly, some of our tissues were changed with the Combat Upgrade, so some of the bonuses we used to be able to craft into clothes are no longer craftable.

What clothes can these modifiers go in?

Some kinds of clothing take Synthetic Cloth or Reinforced Fiber Panels. These clothes are the only ones that take bio-engineered tissue bonuses. And the bonuses and the component have to match up. (i.e. You can’t put a ranged/melee defense bonus into an item of clothing that only takes synthetic cloth.)

There are several good places to look for information on which components can go into which clothing items, and in what amounts. Among these are: Khristen's Customer's Guide to BE Clothing, Mikalale’s Bio’d Guide, and LoveFlo BioEngineered Fashion

For pictures of clothing items, see our compiled list of Tailor catalogs.

Why didn’t my bio-engineered clothes convert when the CU came out?

Unfortunately, clothing crafted before the CU did not convert. That is, they still have the old (probably useless) bonuses in them.

I want bio-engineered belts/gloves/shoes/etc. Can you make these?

No, bio-engineered tissues cannot go into belts, gloves, shoes, boots, backpacks, or jewelry. See the above guides.

What are the highest bonuses I can get on these clothes?

Well, on individual items, the bonus will vary depending on how many tissues fit into that clothing item and on how good the tissues are. The soft cap on individual tissues seems to be around +16 to +18. It depends on how good the resources and the experimentation results are for the Bio-Engineer who crafts the tissues. However, there is a cap on bonuses at +25. Even if you wear an entire suit of clothing would give you a bonus of +54 or something, the bonus will only go up to +25. Right now there is a bug where the skill modifiers window will show that you have bonuses above +25. You cannot have bonuses higher than +25 through bio-engineered clothing.

Why can’t I get the full +25 bonus on one item?

Well, you can, as long as the bonus you’re looking for goes into synthetic cloth. Some clothing items have multiple slots for synthetic cloth, meaning that bonuses from tissues will stack. (ex. You put one +13 synthetic cloth into one slot and one +5 synthetic cloth with the same kind of bonus into another slot. The finished item will have a +18 bonus.) But no clothing item has more than one slot for reinforced fiber panels. If you want the full +25 there, you will have to wear multiple items of clothing with that bonus.

Can I have more than one kind of bonus in one clothing item?

It depends on what piece of clothing you want. Some take multiple bio-engineered tissues, some don’t. See the above guides.

I am a Wookiee, are there any bio-engineered clothes for me?

Yes, there are several Wookiee items that take bio-engineered bonuses. However, the Wookiee shoulder pad is the only Wookiee-specific item that takes reinforced fiber panels. Wookiees can also wear bandoliers, some of which can be modified with reinforced fiber panels, but these take up the backpack slot.

If my bio-engineered clothing drops to zero condition, will the bonuses still work?

At this point in time, yes. Tailors are asking for clothing to become unequipable when it reaches 0/100, 0/0, or 1/1 condition, though. Hopefully this will be implemented sometime in the future. So be warned, and keep your bio-engineered clothing repaired.

Is it possible to craft armor with bio-engineered tissues?

No. You most certainly can put the tissues into tailoring components, and then craft those components into armor, but the bonuses will not appear in the armor. Crafting bio-engineered tissues into armor will only waste those tissues.

Can I add a bio-engineered tissue to a pre-existing piece of clothing?

No, bio-engineered tissues can only be added during the crafting process. Clothing attachments, however, can only be added to clothing after it has been created.

What are sockets and how can I get them in my bio-engineered clothing?

Sockets are basically slots that skill tapes (aka clothing attachments aka CAs) can fit into. These skill tapes can be added to bio-engineered clothing. The number of sockets on an item is random, so if you need a four-socketed, bio-engineered item, prepare to pay extra, depending on the tailor. See RandDarkstar’s Clothing Attachment Guide

How can I find a tailor to make me these tissues?

A good place to start is to look up tailors from your galaxy on the List of Domestic Goods Traders by Galaxy thread. Another good way to find a tailor is to post in your server or server trade forum. If none of those methods work, try using the vendor search to find tailors who stock bio-engineered clothing, and send them a polite email asking if they have what you need or if they do special orders.

Crafting Questions

How do I craft bio-engineered clothing?

First, you need bio-engineered tissues. Then you take the tissues and craft them into components (either synthetic cloth [SC] or reinforced fiber panels [RFP]). These components can then be added to certain clothing items.

Where can I find these bio-engineered tissues?

They are created by bio-engineers. If you are looking for a bio-engineer, you can use the galactic vendor search, post in your server or server trade forum, or look at this post in the Bio-Engineer forum.

Where do I put these tissues in the components?

When crafting a piece of Synthetic Cloth or Reinforced Fiber Panel, you will see a box that says “Optional Biological Component.” This is where the tissues go.

Why won’t it let me put my tissue into the SC/RFP?

Be certain that you are trying to put the tissue into the correct component. Some tissues go into SC, others go into RFP. See above for a list.

It says I need identical components for the clothing item I want to make. How do I make those?

You will need to make a factory run of components. In order to do that, you will need a crate of identical bio-engineered tissues. For further info on how to run factories, see Section 2 of the Tailoring FAQ.

How do modifiers stack? It seems like they do sometimes and don’t other times.

Modifiers stack only if the components are placed in separate slots. When a slot asks for identical components, the bonuses in those components will not stack. There are no items that have multiple slots for RFPs, so you must wear multiple clothing items to achieve a full +25 bonus.

Can I experiment on the clothing to make the bonus higher?

No, you cannot. Whatever bonus is in the tissue is the bonus you will get in the final product.

What level do I need to be to make bio-engineered clothing?

You need Novice Tailor to make synthetic cloth, and you need Field Wear II to make reinforced fiber panels.[/doHTML]
