Title: Quake 4 For The 360

lunchbox6643 - February 16, 2006 06:30 PM (GMT)
So there I am at the local video store starring at the small selection of 360 games... trying my best not to laugh at the efforts to please any customer ready to play some HD games with their awesome selection of either perfect dark: zero- which I thought was horrible, mostly b/c it plays just like Perfect dark for the N64... same awfull aiming.... So here I am wondering why I still make any atempt to still come to this place, when some one walks through the door with a 360 return... and so I finish up my prayer and head to the counter and what do you know the good sir had returned Quake 4 for the 360... I damn near made a lil happy dance right then and there.... but hey I need my pride. Now i've been wanting to play this game for a very long time, but I couldn't run the PC demo on my old computer. Which I hear was sort of a disappointment. Well after paying the clerk an skipping to the car... ok walking to the car, but I could've easly skip.... had I wanted punched.

I drive home and throw in the disc.... I had my buddy over at the time and he was as excited as I about playing this game in HD, then .... bam... first disappointment... turns out if you don't have an Xbox Live account you can't play online period, so no split screen action for him... of course I don't mind more for me...lol.... than ... bam... second disappointment... turn out not to many people own or play the game at once, so in mach making it gives the room like 160 sec. to find players after the first one joins... so you play the waiting game.... then the loading game.... finally after what seem like an horrific amount of time the map starts up... and I can't stop smiling.... but wait theres a warm up round, where you run around picking up guns, which spawn the 2 sec. after you pick them up leaving no skill in finding weapons. So here you are running around loading up on weapons, killing people and it not counting, just waiting for the game to decide it's time to play... then you hear "get ready" "and GO"... wow I suddenly can't see anyone, or kill them... what's that talking voice "4 frags left"... but I haven't killed anyone? .... "3 frags left"... son of a **bleep** the voice is counting down the other people, I better get a kill ... "2 frags left"... what the hell where is everyone.... "1 frag left" ... o this is awesome I find three people and all three killed me, come on baby one kill..... YEAH thats right **bleep** I got your as...... "game over, you lose".... O THIS IS SOME BULL SH........ yep thats right 15 mins of wait, 2 mins of play time... if your lucky... of course there is other types of game play like CTF, which never has enough people playing for it to be fun.... well lets just say I was let down pretty hard, so hard in fact I didn't even try the single player, I just couldn't I put the disk back in it's case and let it be.... but I felt kinda bad about just spending 5 dollar on a game I wasn't gonna play...

so after about 2 days of cursing of the whole thing I decided to give it another chance... well let me tell you I'm glad I did b/c I got to say the last days of rental where a blast, it brought back all the feelings of staying up late trying to peak around corners and taking out big deformed beast.... all the things I loved about the games before it... this game was meant for the PC but the single player on the 360 totally worth playing, its smooth, its quick, and who doesn't love running around with a flashlight mounted on there gun trying to shoot the things that go bump in the night... I know I did... so my final consensus: online sucked... the single player, worth renting again
