An interview with Emma
"With her own hit Nickelodeon show Unfabulous and starring roles in Aquamarine and the upcoming Nancy Drew, Emma is out to prove she is the total opposite of unfabulous. We caught up with the 15-year-old recently, and asked her about her TV show, her movie career, and her famous aunt, the Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts. Here's what she had to say:
Q: Can we call you Nancy Drew?
Emma: If you would like to!
Q: How many Nancy Drew movies are you committed to doing?
Emma: Right now we're working on this one and after that there's the potential to do a couple more, which would be amazing. I'm having so much fun. We have a great cast and a great crew.
Q: Are you a fan of the books?
Emma: I hadn't read them before but I'm starting to read them now. I'm reading a book about the writer of Nancy Drew. It's called Girl Sleuth. It's really interesting. It tells you all about where [the stories] came from, and about all the different writers—it was actually more than one person who wrote all of those books.
Q: Is the movie being updated, or does it take place at the time the stories were written?
Emma: I think the really cool thing about it is that we're keeping the character the same. She dresses in her old-fashioned clothes, but they're moving her out of River Heights and into Hollywood. She goes to Hollywood High and they're all in their trendy clothes.
Q: Is it a murder mystery plot?
Emma: Yeah, she unravels a Hollywood mystery. There's never been a murder in a Nancy Drew book—it was either solving a mystery about something or maybe somebody was murdered but they never solved the murder. This is the first one.
Q: How did you get the part?
Emma: I had a meeting with Warner Bros.—they had a long list of movies coming up, but the one that stuck out to me was Nancy Drew. Obviously, everybody knows who Nancy Drew is, except for maybe some of my guy friends, but that's OK. When I heard they were making a movie about that, I called my manager and said, "I have to be Nancy Drew! I have to!" A couple of months went by and I was asked to screen-test. I was really nervous about it because this was the first thing that I auditioned for that I would have cried if I didn't get. All the other [roles] l was like, "I'll try again. It will happen." When I got the part I was so excited. It was my dream.
Q: What do you think of Nancy? Would you like to be like her?
Emma: Yeah, she's an icon to everybody. She has such a good outlook on life and on people, which I really admire. I think the first books were written in the '30s or '40s. Everybody loved her.
Q: Any embarrassing moment story to share?
Emma: We were shooting at a high school for Nancy Drew and there were all these kids gathered around. I'm in my outfit—this old-fashioned buttoned-up shirt, this really funny hat, a skirt with a big belt around it, and penny loafers. So, these girls start laughing at me, which was embarrassing, and then I turned around and didn't look where I was going and I walked right into one of the trailers and they started laughing even harder. It was so embarrassing.

You're very correct. Umm, no, Emma, there's been at least 100. Practically every File has a murder in it. Let's get our facts right before signing on to play Nancy. :thisstinks: :thisstinks:
