Please Vote! My favorite are the yellow hardcovers and digest paperbacks.
CaseSolver - April 12, 2006 05:41 PM (GMT)
My favorite are the Minstrel paperbacks. You know the ones with the different color borders? :goodjob:
detectivedrew - April 12, 2006 09:55 PM (GMT)
Those are really good! ;) I LOVE them!
retardedwalrus - April 13, 2006 11:40 PM (GMT)
The original yellow hardcovers are my faves. :P
NDFAshley - April 13, 2006 11:52 PM (GMT)
Same here! Some things a re better old I 'spose. The new ones seem so fake and un-Nancy like. Same with the new Nancy movie. <_< :frustrated:
detectivedrew - April 14, 2006 12:06 AM (GMT)
Are you talking abou the ALL NEW Nancy Drew? I don't like how they try to make everyone equal in it and how Nancy is Ms. Goody Two-Shoes because noone is perfect and in the older books she's down to life.
retardedwalrus - April 14, 2006 05:55 PM (GMT)
Yeah, she's willing to actually get dirty in the originals. In the new ones she's like, "Oh I wouldn't want to get mud on my jeans" or whatever.
detectivedrew - April 15, 2006 12:35 PM (GMT)
Yep and I can go on and on saying things I don't like in the new ones. 1.They try to make everyone equal (mechanic wiz? computer geek? give me a break....) 2.She dispises Chief McGinnis and she's like 'I'm SO much better than Chief McGinnis! He's so dumb he couldn't find his way out of a paper bag!' 3.Nancy is very 'forget'full. 'Oh I forgot to put gas in my car, OOps. Oops I put my sweater on backwards twice today!' and I can go on but here are my top 3 things I dislike.
retardedwalrus - April 15, 2006 03:02 PM (GMT)
I know, they've made her into such a KLUTZ!!! I mean, I know she can't be perfect, but this is annoying!
I totally agree with your reasons! :insane:
detectivedrew - April 16, 2006 07:10 PM (GMT)
The authors didn't really think realisticly I mean a girl who can't miss ANYTHING looking out of place forgets to buy a new car battery or wears different colored socks. I know they say that she is 'lost in thought' but if she was that'd make her a bad detective because isn't she supposed to be alert all the time. Of course we all know that isn't the Nancy we've come to know and love
Same thing with the on campus or (most of the) Files. Don't get me wrong I love those but when I read them I don't think it's good-ole Nancy--I just think it's a girl named by the same name of Nancy Drew-not the heroine Nancy Drew. This is just my opinion and if anyone disagrees-I totally understand.
retardedwalrus - April 16, 2006 10:49 PM (GMT)
Well, I totally agree with you. What about the "All new Nancy Drew" series? They're OK, but none can compare to the original yellow hardcover!!! :goodjob:
NDFAshley - April 17, 2006 12:40 AM (GMT)
I like the yellow-backs because Nancy is NANCY! She does better sleuthing, more mysteries, and it is original! B)
detectivedrew - April 17, 2006 01:49 AM (GMT)
I totally agree with both of you!! You know how The New ND advertised as Nancy as "Smarter, Cooler, Quicker, Cuter, Surer, Braver, Faster, Newer" I guess their plan kind of fell through because The New ND is none of those except the last one -Newer. Well enough of me blabbering about the ALL NEW Nancy Drew girl detective I must say I loved the yellow backs and digest paperbacks becasue Nancy is her intelligent, sweent, woderful, rolemodel self. I' like to see a NEW series come close to the yellow hardcovers.
NDFAshley - April 18, 2006 12:13 AM (GMT)
Yeah, same here. I would buy them if they were like the old Nancy. B)
retardedwalrus - April 18, 2006 11:05 PM (GMT)
I have only read the first "All-New" Nancy Drew, and I thought it was better than a lot of the paperbacks. I'll need to read more of them to get the feel, though. :goodjob:
HoopGirl7 - April 23, 2006 06:53 PM (GMT)
I like the Yellow Hardbacks and the Nancy Drew Digest Paperbacks.
retardedwalrus - April 23, 2006 07:03 PM (GMT)
I like those too. Personally, my overall favorites are the original yellow hardcovers. :w00tw00t: But the later series after that are pretty good.
HoopGirl7 - April 23, 2006 08:07 PM (GMT)
Yup! I haven't read that many of the yellow hardcovers, but I really like the ones i have read. I think i've read more of the mystery stories, though. I really want to read the Nancy Drew on Campus books, but I can't find t hem anywhere! :crying:
CaseSolver - April 24, 2006 12:22 AM (GMT)
Yeah, those ARE really hard to find. If you really want them, perhaps you could buy them used on www.amazon.com. If you don't want to order them online, try going to a used bookstore. :w00tw00t:
retardedwalrus - April 24, 2006 10:03 PM (GMT)
There are a lot of Dollar Generals and pawn shops around where I live, so finding ND books is no prob! :goodjob:
HoopGirl7 - April 25, 2006 12:33 AM (GMT)
Man, your soo lucky! We have one close bookstore. We used to have one that sold cheap books, but I wasn't a big ND fan so I never really looked in there. Then they closed down. So I now go to the other one and it has like the same books whenever i look! I have half the ones they have ever put on the shelves there! It's kinda annoying :pokers:
detectivedrew - April 25, 2006 03:25 AM (GMT)
You should do a Yahoo search on used bookstores in your city. I did that I found 3 that I din't even know existed!
Vixie - April 26, 2006 07:55 PM (GMT)
Nancy Drew Yellow Hardbacks,
Those are my fav,I have not really liked any of the other ones...No offense to those who do like the others! We are all different, like different things so we are bound to like different books.
I do want to read all of the others...Unless I get so far & just can't stand it anymore...Some of the things that go on are just horrible! I was reading some book....to be honest Im not sure what type it was or anything Im not even sure what or if there was a mystery but I was sort of mad by the book, characters ''personalities'' & quit reading!!I felt sorry for Bess because she was wreck (It didn't seemed like anything good happened to her) Eating disorders, stalkers, dead boyfriend (only good thing was her boyfriend)...Don't even start on Nancy, George & others......It was mostly because that's not how I view Nancy,Bess & George.....But hey,Thats just me Im sure others enjoy the difference....Like I said we are all different.
I want to read them all really...Mainly so I can have a taste & knowledge of ALL ''Nancy Drew'' but many of those books....well...The Nancy In Them isn't the ''Nancy Drew'' I know. -_-
So yeah, Yellow Backs are me,but I do want to at least try the others. :)
Nancy Drew Fan,
Vixie
HoopGirl7 - April 26, 2006 08:11 PM (GMT)
Wow! Poor Bess! Gosh, I wonder why they would write about all that kind of stuff. I wonder if the new ND writers have even read the older books to get a good idea of what Carolyn Keene wanted. Or they just throw a bunch of stuff in that they would want to happen and not think of what the ND fans would like to read. That makes me mad too! :bootomato:
detectivedrew - April 26, 2006 09:22 PM (GMT)
I agree with you Vixie! I like the yellow hardcovers and the digest paperbacks. #57-175 :discodude:
retardedwalrus - May 2, 2006 09:56 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I know, I read about the book where Bess got an eating disorder! I was thinking, "WHO IS WRITING THESE???" because the Bess in the books would never do something like that! :phew:
HoopGirl7 - May 5, 2006 07:42 PM (GMT)
I think these people are a little :sarcastic: crazy. I mean, if they even bothered to read the other Nancy Drew books, they would know that Bess would certainly not get an eating disorder! She would just obsess over boys, worry about clothes, and other stuff like that! lol
I agree retardedwalrus...Who are these PEOPLE!? and WHY are they doing it!
retardedwalrus - May 5, 2006 08:37 PM (GMT)
I think they're Martian monkeys. :sarcastic:
detectivedrew - May 6, 2006 12:27 AM (GMT)
ROFL!! Do you know what the title of the book is?
retardedwalrus - May 6, 2006 01:22 PM (GMT)
I don't remember...It's one of the later ones.
HoopGirl7 - May 6, 2006 10:46 PM (GMT)
LOL!! If you remember, please tell us! I wanna read that book and see how weird it gets...LOL :sarcastic:
retardedwalrus - May 10, 2006 10:55 PM (GMT)
Lol. I don't even have that book anymore. I gave it to one of my sisters and who knows what they did with it.
detectivedrew - May 10, 2006 11:25 PM (GMT)
Do you remember if it was a file, on campus, digest paperbacks, etc?
retardedwalrus - May 11, 2006 09:34 PM (GMT)
It was a file. :annoyannoy:
HoopGirl7 - May 13, 2006 11:50 PM (GMT)
Coolies!! Thanks, I'm gonna see if I can find what book it is. Maybe if I find a title and post it, it'll ring a bell for ya!! Lol, I don't know...I'm just soooo bored -_-
detectivedrew - May 13, 2006 11:59 PM (GMT)
Was the eating disorder being to skinny or to fat?
retardedwalrus - May 14, 2006 05:57 PM (GMT)
Well in most of the books they describe Bess as "plump." B) But not overweight.
detectivedrew - May 14, 2006 10:50 PM (GMT)
Yes and then George is really mean to Bess about her weight.
Nancy - May 14, 2007 12:54 AM (GMT)
:happyhappyday: :insane: :lovvey: :D Yea, the Nancy Drew Classics are the BEST, but for some reason I've taken a liking to the Nancy Drew Girl Detective Series. I like how you can go inside Nancy's mind in the 1st person. It kind of puts me in Nancy's shoes, and it's easier to imagine myself as Nancy. I don't know, I just like both Series. I think the worst series is the Nancy Drew on Campus. They really mess up Nancy in those books. Good thing those didn't last long. I so can't wait till the Nancy Drew Movie on June 15th. I'm going to see it on opening day with two of my friends! Omigosh, I'm SOOOOOOOOOO excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :yuppers: :friends4ever: :yayzinyayzers:  :detective:
mysterylover - May 15, 2007 01:24 AM (GMT)
 :( I voted for the yellow paperbacks because those books show that Nancy is NOT one original teenager; she's smart, efficient and all of those other things that some teens don't have. I love it the way she solves mysteries; in the end she describes her theories and they always make sense! But when I read Secrets Can Kill from the Nancy Drew Files, I was just a WEE bit disappointed because not only does she cheat on Ned, she relies on Ned to protect herself from one of the suspects! And in this book she always seems to delay her time to snoop and do what a real detective would do. In the book, Nancy always finds something else to do before she could snoop and when she realised that it's too late, she just doesn't care! I finished the book in one night and I ended up looking like this:   <_<
