Title: New maps?
cloud - March 14, 2007 05:26 PM (GMT)
Hey, i was just looking through the map rotation, and pretty much every map that we have is now controlled or inhabits the Alliance and the Empire. I was thinking we could find maybe two more maps that could be used as Outer Rim planets so that we have somewhere new to Rp, and so that rp can be a bit free'er.
Dragon - March 14, 2007 05:38 PM (GMT)
I said this to Kel and suggested Narshadda be added. He believes otherwise...

But if you know a good one, link me.

The Empire is the galactic government, and as such have a presence everywhere. When the server first started, it was the same situation, and even then the Empire had a much stronger presence on Tatooine then it does now, but even then it didn't stop people from RPing freely or alot of illegal organizations like the Exchange, the Shadow Assassins, or even the Sith to exist and thrive under that format. Just because the Empire controls a particular planet, it doesn't mean that they automatically have an army within a second's notice ready to deploy for anything that may potentially happen.
What has however prevented people from RPing freely are the regular gank squads, and the general heroism complex that people have when RPing. If there's something illegal going on, or prehaps you have an underground gathering of people opposed to the Empire, suddenly half of the people on the server switch to Stormtrooper/Alliance characters and/or stormtrooper/alliance temps in order to perform a takedown, and that doesn't take into account the ever constant presence of the do-gooders that jump into fights that have nothing to do with their characters simply because they know oocly that they're helping the "good guys".
The RP on Legacy was designed such that you could play any character you like on any map, and the only restriction you place on your characters are those imposed by the players themselves through their RP actions and IC decisions. So in that sense, even if Tatooine is part of the Empire, the current maps we use for Tatooine are not completely swarming with Stormtroopers or Imperials like people believe, but rather they get that impression because anytime something illegal is going down, or an enemy of the Empire shows up, people switch to Stormtrooper temps to form gank squads and automatically go for the juggular of those who oppose the Empire.
As for Nar Shadaa, my opposition to it stems from the fact that we did have the map on the rotation for several weeks, but nobody RP'd on it, and whenever we switched to that map people would bitch about it, so it was removed.

I agree with Kel on most of what he said.
Even though Winth is usually one to put his life on the line to help a stranger, he always figures out the situation and learns who's in the right before helping. And I always oppose OOCly formed plans to destroy any criminal activity. I think that's the one thing this server severely lacks: crime. Every now and then somebody will kill an innocent, which may make for some good RP, but no. The second the person is dead, a conveniently placed stormtrooper sees the killer and suddenly the killer is being chased by half the server, most of which doesn't even have Imperial characters.
No offense to Pheobus, but he's got this crazy plot that Maria is going to undoubtedly escape Jalig and tattle on the Sith before they even return. Where's the fun in that? Every galaxy needs an arch-nemesis, and right now we don't really have some sort of Evil killing machine on a conquest. I know about Celest and his whole Dark Lord of the Sith dealio, but he's not in the open yet. I just think there's no sense in conveniently leading characters near fledgling plots and putting an end to them before they ever get good.
EDIT: w00t!!! THIS IS THE HOLY POST!! NUMBER 777, BABY!!

Ba dom CHING!
I think he means by planets that are free from imperial rule, if only a couple. The fact that the empire is everywhere means that cultural factions and stuff cannot claim planets.
But im happy with the rotation atm, just some thoughts

Quite the contrary, cultural factions can form planetary governments, just not they're own empire per se. For example, if I wanted to, I could create a political faction on Naboo who's sole purpose is to get elected into power as king/queen to run the planet, but even if they claim the planet, they're still subject to Imperial Authority, and even if they control the planet and can police it, they are still in the same situation as the Empire is in with respect to how much presence they have on a map. This will be even more so important once the Imperial Senate will be formed as now planets will have a more influencial voice into the actual policies of the Empire.

Im sure your refering to me here:

Just so you know that was entirely legitimate and wasn't in any form an attempt to gank. Im probably the biggest contributer to evil on this server so I know first hand how hard it is to have a bad character. But that instance was legit because Brutus didnt realize we watched him...when in fact he had gone AFK waiting for you to return, thus giving me and Zeph a 5minute view of him. We prepared without rushing in and with the intent to question not just openly attack etc. If I knew brutus had gone afk and wasn't IC as he stood less than 3m from us it wouldn't have happened.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway onto the point...I agree with what your saying Kel but I think cloud is drawing this from another perspective, and its one thats actually having a negative effect on the server.
Perhaps im wrong, but I think cloud is refering to how no other faction can gain control of a planet because the Empire-Alliance is so vast etc. But, I think the server has detereorated into a contest of stats and competing ranks. While in many respects theres too much combat within the roleplay, sometimes it can be controlled and used to spur good Rps. The battle of Lok was far better in every sense than the battle of Mandalore...not because it had various battles, but because it allowed better Rps and interaction to unfold. Battles on this server have become about winning and not about Rping them, the Lok battle allowed stormtroopers to interact more and become more than just cannon fodder. The mandalore battle was just stat orientated and had little to no roleplay in it, effectively making the battle quite shit.
My point here is, that if cloud wants more maps so other factions can sprout then I think thats a bad way to look at it. The servers not meant to be about combat and factions arent meant to be competing for survival but instead should aim for other goals. E.g. Crime getting reputation and favour. However like Kel said even though the Empire-Alliance are on a few maps they dont dominate them...its only when people spam use of stormtroopers etc that it gets too much. But I would still like to see Narshadda because like all maps I see no reason why it cant be added to see if Rp occurs.
We cant predict that there will be no Rp, I had many great Rps on Narshadda (e.g. Darth Sinis taking Darth Malum on a tour of the poverty and suffering of Narshadda, showing how the darkside helps people, Sinis whispering into the ear of a poor suffering women to comit suicide to end her pain)
We had Rodia for several weeks and it was the shittest map i've ever seen, we learned it was shit after noone Rp'd there. Narshadda did get moaned about, but then so has every single other map on the server. We need to rise to the needs of the people, were not in school here. We give maps for Rp, if people dont like them we eventually remove them etc. Considering many people here already downloaded the vast map list when only 50% of it is used, I think it doesnt hurt to add some extra variety. Hell id love to see Helms deep again because I had some great Rps there...but still, you cant win them all

I actually wasn't referring to the events of last night, but moreso an observation I made when way too often these days when I check the server status to see who's online, it's far too often that I see multiple people with "stormtrooper 5/5" as their name. But even then, nothing is stopping any faction from controlling a planet, they can still control the planet and be under imperial authority. The perfect example of that would be with the offer Locke is making to the mandalorians. Even then, there are still many worlds that the Imperials don't really have a presence in like Tatooine (3 maps) and Lok.
Arcadiaus - March 14, 2007 09:41 PM (GMT)
The reason I used Stormtrooper5/5 was because my ST wasn't on Cor streets and I couldn't just randomly pop up there. Originally i used st 3/3 so it would be just like having a perm char with only 3 lives.. However I was told to go at least 5...
Kyrden Ors - March 14, 2007 09:42 PM (GMT)
Why did you even use temps? On top of that, were you even needed in the fight? how many perm ST's were there?
Dragon - March 14, 2007 09:45 PM (GMT)
Yes he was Mario, I requested him as Joala ordered a squad of stormtroopers. I had 2 perms and asked Arc to take some temps. Arc, its a good idea to have multiple stormtroopers btw as it makes it easier to flow from planets without having them on every one.

I know its a good idea... I just didn't want anyone to complain about any uberness of temps..

Didn't look like that worked..
