I just purchased another server not too long ago to handle database transactions and storage but it's running out of space and I kinda need this one to give it some extra longevity. I'm kicking you guys and AFH off of it.

However, I like you guys (and very fond of my friend at afh) so I'm looking to purchase a new server, this time a rackmount instead of a modified desktop. I want to know, what do you guys want to have running on it?

What the intial server specifications are is the following to start out with:


Dell PowerEdgeSC 1435
Processors: Dual Core AMD Opteron® 2210; 1.8GHz,2X1MB Cache,1Ghz HyperTransport
Number of Processors: 2 Dual Core Processors, simulating four processors.
Memory: 2Gb 667MHz, 4x512MB Single Ranked DIMMs
Storage: 1 80Gb SCSI Hard Drive

This cost is going to run me around $1,700 USD, and is doable for upgrades and expansion in the future. I found a local colocation in town with a good internet connection for around $100 USD a month, and an additional $10 for a domain name registration. My question then to

wow.. so when is this going to happen? is the new server running now?

I've been talking to people in the server who spend time playing other games on other servers, why not play other games on the same server?

Nononono. Power Supplies =p. If replacing the power supply(Which I know is broken) Doesnt completly fix it, THEN I'll replace the CPU, which is the only other possible problem. Since the power supply IS broken, it doesnt mean the CPU isnt, so I might as well start with the power supply, so those first!

Don't be so sure about that. Hosting other games wouldn't obligate you to go out and get them, but if you already have them, then you have that additional option. It would simply serve as an alternative for our players in order to keep their interest in their community, recognizing the fact that we have alot of gamers here as well that enjoy a variety of different games. There are some members here that can no longer play JKA for various reasons so instead of having them become inactive, they could still stay with us to play games. Hosting other games would also provide a great recruiting tool into the community in order to gain even more members and make sure that we don't become stagnant. Any other games hosted like Battlefront 2 would not require the same amount of administration compared to the main JKA roleplaying server.

I would not normally comment but I would just say that it could spread the existing members more thinly between the games you host and reduce activity. However I imagine you will not have this problem if you can handle it right.

We could probably use Battlefront 2 for battles. Maybe someone with some modding ability to create a nice mini-mod that would fit our purposes.

Battlefront 2 is a good idea yea, but there would be certain restrictions like troop numbers (since both sides get the same amount of soldiers) and so on and so forth.

The problem with hosting such games, is that it would require equal if not more administration then our main JKA server. The purpose here is not to spread the player base through various roleplaying mediums, but to reinforce the player we currently have available. FPS titles provide that benefit given the fact that they would require less administration, and they have a much larger player base then JKA making it theoritically easier to obtain new players.

A fact that we're well aware of. It's something that will need to be addressed to ensure we don't end up in a scenario of addition with substraction.

I'd like to see a Halo: Combat Evolved Server for PC. Just for Pwning and chatting, not really for RP. I have a good Torrent for Halo PC if anyone wants it. I love BBQing people with the Flamethrower on Multiplayer lol.

I'd like to see a halo custom edition server.. Custom maps vehicles and weapons!! UBER
