This is probably the topic that most people have trouble with and is constantly being asked on every forum around the globe!
There are many ways to include gfx in your postings. The main way is to use a hosting service such as
the one here. There are too many of these services to list them all, but they tend to be free and fairly reliable.
To make images viewable by all and to keep speeds at a decent rate, I would suggest that all images shown on this forum should be a absolute maximum of 500 pixels wide. Any bigger images may be removed.
If your image is too big, then you can resize it. Resizing an image to 500 pixels wide will reduce it in file size suitable for posting on the picture host service.
(Some programmes allow you to adjust the jpg compression which will also have a bearing on file size).
The easiest method if you have MS Office installed is as follows:
1. Find the image in Windows Explorer
2. Right click on the image
3. Select 'open with'
3. Select 'Microsoft Office Picture Manager'
4. Select 'Picture' from the top menu
5. Select 'Resize' from the dropdown menu
6. Select the radio button 'Predefined width x height:"
7. From the lookup table, select "web small (448 x 336 px)"
8. Select 'OK'
9. Select 'File' > 'Save as'
OK, assuming you now have your picture saved to a picture hosting service, how to use it here.
Find the picture you want to show, I've just gone to Photobucket and typed Jaguar and found this:
I right-clicked on the picture and selected "properties". This shows the URL of the picture (URL is the exact location on the world wide web) I highlighted this text by left-clicking at the end of it and dragging to the front, making sure ALL text is highlighted. The text for this image is "http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/Kapricorn/Jaguar.jpg"; Minus the speechmarks!
It is actually displayed here by typing (img) - but use SQUARE brackets, then the URL, as above, then (/img) again SQUARE brackets and the result is what you see above. I've had to use round brackets in the example as the forum tries to display the text between the instructions (bits in square brackets).
The above is the manual way of doing things. The smarter ones amongst you will have noticed the 'IMG' code button when you post a topic. all you do is click this, enter the url of your picture into the pop-up box and Robert is your mother's brother.
