Title: Hello
gonzo - March 30, 2006 04:00 PM (GMT)
Hello,
I am Dave, username of Gonzo (for obvious reasons).
I have just bought a 1989 XJ-S V12, 46500 miles on clock.
It needs quite a bit doing to it, water leaks, blowing exhaust etc. etc.
Taking it for an MOT tomorrow, I know it will fail but at least I will come away
with a list of jobs to do.
I am hoping to get to some meetings if possible to meet others and get some hints n tips.
Cheers! :)

Hello Dave, welcome to the forum.
Sounds like you're going to have lots of fun this summer.
Good luck.

Welcome aboard Dave :D
Hope you don't have to much work to do on the XJS.

Thanks for your welcomes.
It failed the MOT like I thought it would.
Handbrake, exhaust, emissions on on side, split tyre along with the leaks etc.
Yes I am going to be busy (and skint).
Dave. :(

Had any luck with your car yet, Dave?

Just fitted recon'd water pump and 2 new thermostats, thought all was fine, now the expansion tank has sprung a leak! Oh well at least i will know the cooling
system inside out when I have finished.
P.S.
I like my Gonzo picture, :D
Cheers!
Dave.

Have you had the radiator checked? If not, it might be time to do it! In for a penny etc. It must be frustrating to have these setbacks, but think of the day when you finally get to blow the cobwebs away.
Glad you like the pic, I couldn't think of anything else!

Just thought I would welcome you to the board.
Having owned several XJ-S's I know how fustrating and awkward thay can be to work on??
And how great they feel when your driving them. :D

Thanks Dan,
Seeing that you have "the Knowledge" on XJS's can I ask your advice.
Would you recommend 82 or 88 degree thermostats on my V12 HE XJ-S?
I have read numerous articles and I am even more confused than before.
I just ordered and fitted 2 new thermostats (I ordered the ones that the parts company said were compatible with my car) but they didn't have jiggle pins in them so I am thinking of either drilling them or replacing them with new again!
Thanks in advance for any info.
Dave.
